I got a jato 3.3 that won't start at first I thought it was a tuning issue cause it would start but run very laggy but now I can't get it to start at all I put it back to factory tune settings, new fuel, glow plug working fine. I did find out that the spring around the clutch shoes snapped into 3 pieces and the shoes were just hanging there I don't know if that would affect it from starting I've heard that it should still start with that problem I just hope that's not true. Any ideas would be great?

Have you replaced the clutch? If not, the clutch is putting too much drag on the engine and it won't allow it to start, I'd start by replacing the clutch.

Might just be worn out. How much fuel through it? Was it broke in right? Always set to BDC when cooling off? Use after run oil? Without proper break-in and care, even a quality nitro motor can be trashed within a couple of gallons. With proper care, a decent ABC nitro in the .12-.18 displacement range should last at least 10-12 gallons, 12-15 gallons for .21-.28 size. ABN motors are less durable, but I believe TRX engines are all ABC.

When nitro engines lose their pinch, at first they just won't hold a tune cold to hot, but after a little while, they become difficult or impossible to start. If you know nothing is dragging on it (clutch too tight, malfunctioning one-way bearing, etc), you've already verified good glow plug (and igniter), and have tinkered with the fuel metering sufficiently, I'd say it's time to repinch, rebuild or replace. You can probably score a piston & sleeve set for ~$50 for a Traxxas .21, or take this opportunity to upgrade to a nicer motor, like O.S. or Picco (sorry, but TRX nitro motors are just not that great, IMO).
