ogarrid -> 25% oil fuel (4/24/2002 3:05:24 PM)

I have a very old os max 25 rc engine wich uses 25% castor oil.It is a steel liner lapped iron piston so this is the reason for using so % oil on it.
After some questions I asked on this forum I want to try with 10% nitro content. Now I use 5% Nitro 20% castor and I add extra castor.
I have asked for 10% fuel and here in Europe I can Buy a glow fuel that is called Duraglow from modeltechnics. This fuel is 10 % nitro 15% oil (9% Synthetic, 6% castor ).
Do you think it is ok to add castor oil for reaching 25% desired?
There is any problem with this 9% synthetic oil using this kind old engine?

Thanks and sorry for my poor english

Your English is fine, ogarrid, much better than my Spanish!

Adding more Castor oil to the 15% oil fuel you mentioned should not cause problems, even though it partially uses synthetic. This is done here in the States often and I've not heard of anyone having problems with the old iron/steel lapped piston engines using this mix.

I'm sure you know to use a high-grade Castor oil, one that's been "degummed". This will reduce varnish buildup in your engine over time. Also, nitro content and alcohol content will be reduced when you add more oil, but not by a lot. Your old OS Max engine (I have several like yours) should run fine with this fuel.

Good luck and I hope this helps some! :)
