Question on 109 Charger. It needs a 12V source, what would be a good source for one. Cheap with enough amps?

AstroFlights is about 80.00 retail and has 13 amps.

Thanks,
Larry

Try http://www.ramboy.com/cosel.htm, but from the looks of it, they're closing out fast.

You can often buy good power supplies on Ebay for good prices. Definitely get one that's rated for at least 10 Amps. That'll allow you to charge a pretty good cell count at a pretty good rate, but it won't let you go full-bore on a full 9-cell pack. For that, you'd need a 25 Amp power supply, IMHO.

Think of it as an investment. You can run ANY field charger off it. You can run 12V accessories from it.

zAccording to my MRC Super Brain 969 (which charges AC or DC) it will charge from 1-8 cells. And it charges NiCd , NiMH, Lithium and Lead Acid cells. Haven't used it on Li yet so don't know how that would work. Does an excellant job on the NiCd and NiMH cells.

NEVER use the Super Brain 969 to charge LiPos!!! It will damage them by swelling, or worse, catching them on fire!!! Do a search - there have been warnings posted about this charger many times in recent months. I have personally witnessed nearly 1/2 dozen 969s ruin hundreds of dollars worth of LiPos!!!

A few months back I bought 2 Radio Shack 13.8V 25 amps power supplies. They are small and light and were on closeout for $60 each! If you can still find one, its well worth the price! IVe charged 8S4P 8000 mAh LiPos @ 8 amps using my Schulze 636 charger with this power supply - while using a 112D to charge my Tx too. VERY powerful!

Cant wait for my 109 - should be here in a few weeks

The SuperBrain 969 is not a LiPoly charger, for sure. I don't know how they can get away with advertising that that charger can do LiPolys. Someone's going to get hurt.

Agreed - MRC has a real liability on their hands. They need to make a major announcement regarding this and refund all those who bought it to charge LiPos!

Amazingly, minutes after my last post, the Astro 109D showed up with the postman. Early Christmas present Itll get a great work out over the new few days charging all my Thunder Power LiPos for a few new (and old) planes!
