Cobra,

Very Nice Job!

You mentioned "springs mounted on the tail wheel to keep it centered when retracted so no hangups when extending". can you give me the link to that process ? I have noticed that this might be an issue. Also I notice you used a DA-50, and did not cut the cowl on the left side...very nice...I had Keleo create a pitts style for me that is very slim and allowed me not to cut the cowling on a DL-50. I am in the final process with my canopy and cockpit now. I should be up by months end...Have you flown yours yet ?

Nick

The picture that DASINTEX posted is exactly what I did. The springs just center the wheel once the pull-pull cables go slack when retracting the tail wheel. It work very well. I just drilled a 1/16 hole in the fram to attach the spring.

No problem buddy. I loose things on my bench and look for them all over to find them sitting there staring up at me. It happens to all of us mortals.

I have been following this thread for some time as I am in the process of building the ARC version. I have included many of the tips and inputs from various contributors. Thanks!!! it has been invaluable. I am at a point in my build where I need to come out of the shadows to request some specific help. I am building the ARC version and have the Aerotech sliding canopy kit and am looking for help in pulling this off. I have seen lots of build threads on sliding canopies, but not much on the Aerotech sliding canopy and the TF ARC/ARF. The canopy is not an exact fit and the fuse will have to be modified. I have already started this, but this is uncharted teritory for me so getting specific insight from someone who has been there for this combination would be helpful. The other help that I an looking for is hints on how to mount/configure the air piston to actuate the sliding canopy. I would have a lot more options if it were a kit build or if the Aerotech sliding canoy was actually made for the TF ARC. The folks at Aerotech have said that they know that quite a few folks have used their sliding canopy with the TF ARF/ARC, but have not been able to provide any specific "how to" details. Any help would be appreciated, and build pictures would be awesome!

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I too have just purchased a ARC and want to use the same canopy. Can you please keep us in the loop with your fitment? let us know how close it sits of the fuse and whether it needs any mods.

Cheers,

J

Thanks Doug and Cobra1...The springs worked great. Now I am wrestling with the exhaust stacks...I am having the problem of the gap between the fuse and the last exhaust stack..Do either of you have any tricks here....my gap is about an 1/8" gap.. am I going to have to just suck this up.?..or do you have any suggestions..I looked at Tony Hawks scale exhaust but it seems that with it overlapping the cowl it causes the gap any way...

nickvenezia;

My exhaust kit for the Fop Flite GS includes a molded filler pad that is glued to the overhanging part of the exhaust shroud. They can be seen in the attached picture of the kit contents. They're slightly over 1/8" thick which allows you to sand them to fit flush with the fuselage sides on your Mustang. (BTW the shrouds are now ivory in color - tinting them didn't work out).

In the second picture you can see that the final fit looks like they are attached to the fuselage, but they are in fact fastened only to the cowl.

I'll leave it to others to tell you how much better looking my kit is vs the OEM. There are also pictures of your installation on my website.

PM me if you have any questions.

I too used Tonys exhaust and Wildman grafics on my mustang. I glassed and repainted mine this pass spring, he did mine in the Sweet and Lovely theme. Good stuff, you can not go wrong using these guys.

Hi

I am just about to test fly my TF51 and have double and triple checked every thing. i just wanted to know if all you guys have used the book for control surface deflections and for the CFG. and is the aircraft pitching down when you use the flaps.

thanks Paul

Hi

I haven t finished mine yet , but from what I have read many times the plane reacts good to all the control surface throws . this goes as well for the C of G . I hope that someone snswers you with more confidence than I .

As for the flaps , that is a big question , I believe , that depends a lot on air speed and a few other perimeters

All the best with youre maiden

Please keep us ( or me ) informed .

Thanks

Michel

My TFGS does not pitch up when I apply full flaps. My flaps move down about 2 in. when landing and I have not needed any elevator mixing used with that. The suggested control throws are what I used for the first few flights and all was well. I have since made some changes to suit my taste but the rec. throws worked fine for me initially. Good Luck, Kevin.

Ok

we got down the field late about 4pm. it took some time to put the wing on and do all the checks. during the checks i found the Ailerons where reversed. so we fueled it up gave her some primeing and the DL 50 started easy ran the motor at full power to make sure it was running ok my friend was suprised by the amount of power it puts out.

So i did some taxi runs it all worked fine. i taxied down to the end of the runway and prayed to the RC gods and opened her up it tracked strait at until the tale came off the ground. then headed left so i though it was time to leave the ground. it all worked well i did a few circuts i had a leak in the landing gear so they stayed down. i had my friend operate the flaps for me. and there was no pitch changes at all with full flaps.

Came in for the landing a bit to fast and bounced so i had to get back on the power a bit. so i took most of the runway to land. so it all worked well bare one or two hiccups and i was very pumped after the flight. its taken a year to get it this far and it was worth it.

Next time i will get some pictures of the model.

Regards Paul.
