I got to thinking ( I know thats hard to believe...LOL) but the Mustang never had a tendency to nose over on take off or landing, so I put the plane back on my balancer and found the GC had moved backward making it nose heavy after the wing repair. I reposistioned the flight battery and it is now back to where it was before. Just slight nose down at 4 & 9/16" from leading edge at bend in wing inboard of the machine gun ports. Should take off and land a whole lot better now. I knew i should have check the CG, but lazyness crept in. Sooo check your CG after the wing repair.

If it became more nose heavy, wouldn't the CG be farther forward, not rearward? The farther toward the back of the airplane the CG is the more tail heavy the aircraft is, not nose heavy.
My Top Flite ARF was a bit pitch sensitive when balanced at the recommended CG. I'd make it slightly nose heavy and you'll have a better flying airplane. Much more stable and less pitch sensitive at approach and landing speeds.

About your 4 bladed Prop, I wrote earlier and suggested that the 4 Blade 20-8 from Zinger would pull your plane. It will, but the plane does not perform as well as a 22-8 or 10. Mt recommendation is to go with the two blade...good luck.

Hey Gary,
Whats the aforementioned fix of the retract area? I am in the middle of glassing my rtc, let me know so I can beef my mounts up. Also a lot of guys are posting on the p-factor aka groundlooping. I know Gary, you talked about prop selction helping you out, I'll be sporting at DA-50 what prop would you advise? Lastly, I was considering a gyro?
all the best,
Peter

After about 1 year of following this thread and about 8 months of building, I finally finished my P-51. Thanks to this forum I have included many modifications and extras beyond the stock ARC kit. It is powered with a DA-50 with Keleo exhaust, Aerotech inner and outer gear doors, Aerotech scale cockpit kit, Aerotech air operated sliding canopy and finished off with glass finish with molded panel lines and flush rivets. With dual A123 batteries she weighed in at a portly 24.5 pounds. I was able to maiden her this weekend and just as every one has said she flies like a dream! No issues what so ever with two very easy full flap landings. It just floats in. This is my first GS warbird and I have to say that it does fly smooth and easy. I could not be happier with the outcome of this project much to the thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum.

MMONTELLA:

Nice Mustang; I am also building the RTC Version of this plane; I am using the same Aerotech stuff except the sliding canopy; whats the chances of getting some close up pictures of your Gear Doors and Cockpit posted here or emailed to me, they would be a great help.

Thanks. Doug.

MMontella, Excellent plane. Great building and finishing job!!!!
Dolittleraider, I am using a Xoar 18/12 with my Fuji50EII. With the DA you may be able to use a 20/12. This will give you a lot of top end speed so that you can cruise at half throttle. The higher pitch will also cause less pull to the left on take off also due to the higher pitch. It will not allow the engine to rev up as fast. A 20/10 would be a good choice if you want more initial thrust on take off.

Doug,

No problem with the pictures. I will take some over the weekend and forward them to you. For the most part I followed the process for the gear doors on the GS TF build thread ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4555292/mpage_18/key_/tm.htm).

Flew my C Mustang today at the Dayton, Ohio air show along with members and friends of the Buckeye Aero-Sqaudron. we have been starting the morning flying at this large full scale airshow since 1981. I have been involved since 94. Anyhow we fly off a large turnaround ramp that is about 1500'X500' just off the 24L-6R main runway. I completed a 15 minute flight and came over the ramp to land and was a little fast and as I touched down I allowed the tail to drop and caused the plane to bounce on touch down which put the plane back up about four feet off the ground, ( I said I was a little hot alright...stop chuckling). I proceeded to advance the throttle, raise the flaps and do a go around. I then came back and greased it in. ( had to save face in front of all those people...LOL). The reason I'm telling you this is that the wing survived the incident with no damage. I bounced the plane a lot less before I reinforced the wing and caused the top wing skin to crack (glassed wing) and also the bottom and loosened the gear mounting on one side and did internal damage to the other side that was not noticable from the outside. The reinforcement worked again for me. Look forward to flying in the show again tomorrow morning.
Keep em flying!
Gary

Well flew mine at the Skyhawks scale meet today and man was she cooken. But not as fast as the others I was flying with. But thats okay still with three warbirds in a loose formation realy looked cool and got some juices realy flowing. Came into land but was a little hot and high so wet around a gain. Another mains for about 50 ft and let the tail settle in and boy did she make me look good Still working on tweeking in the engine but I will sooner or later get her there. Later on this winter I plan on installing some tank drops and leds in the machinegun barrels to simulate them firing (but actually they will be letting me know that the ignitions is hot and ready to start)
