Dirk just want to say thanks again for the info. I just finished for the night.....i moved the links to the top of the axle...removed the bottom mounts...cut the screws....replaced the susp. links with shocks......cut off the rear servo mount and i think it has about 3/4-1" more travel now....deff has more ground clerance...and is startin to look like a crawler ...i am goin to the shop and get the lowest gears poss. for it tommorow and am going to do something about that stock pipe next! heres how it looks now with the mods you suggested.

Maxxoverkill,
Did you make sure to lengthen your upper links to correct caster? I used shock pistons on each end of the link and it worked perfectly. Now it's time for you to get lower gearing, a real rock crawler body and some better tires. You can get 12t clutch bell and combine it with a Savage spur gear to get super low crawlability!!! As for the tires, do the savage axles swap. If you can't right now, you can always get out the side cutters and go to work on the stock tires. If you get rid of about half of the chevron tread, you'd be surprised how flexible your tires become. You can also soak them in acetone for a while to soften the rubber compound. Best think to do is cut them up with your own tread pattern!!! Back to work!!!

I havent lengthened the upper links yet.....i do see what you are talkin about though, the axle is angled inward at the top. So i was not sure if i wanted to lengthen the existing links or just make some new ones at work ....You said you used shock pistons to extend yours.....how much did you extend it and did you weld the piston to the link?

I am going to get some new tires for it and also the axle conversion. That way i have a wide choice of tires/rims.

I am lookin at bodys for it....tell ya what i wish i could find but i dont think they make them is a 70-72 blazer body. I had a full size(real) 70'blazer that i used to mud/off road with and it had a 10"lift with 40's on it. That would be cool to find one like that!

I do like the early year bronco body that i saw on the site.......i think it was even in this post if i remember....anyone know who makes that?

im geting an x-factor sometime soon. i want to rock crawl but also still go at least 20. i almost ordered a clod off of tower but i noticed the x-factor can be a pretty good crawler, now i want one, and i can rock crawl all day. what cylinder head do you use? and also is there a way to put a side mounted pipe on like from a buggy?

dirk you should try those jumbokong tires from imex. they will make it an unstopable rock crawler if you can turn after there on.

Actually a lot of clods can do huge jumps, depends on how you set it up.

Why in the world would I jump my crawlers off of that!?! I use my Savage for that! That is the point of building a crawler only truck and having multiple trucks for all the other aspects of off roading.

Now think about it for a sec, why would something thats called a "crawler" be jumping off such a cruddy homemade jump. They are not called "jumpers", are they??
