Here is the start of outfitting the new (used) trailer. I first started by installing a platform about mid way up in the trailer to create a shelf for two of my bigger birds. You can see that I have also hung two of my smaller models by the tail in the front section of the trailer. This is why I recommend a trailer that has a front side door option.

You will see that I have used 3/16" bungy cord as hold downs. Note the rack system, it is what they call "E" channel and special brackets that fit a 2x4. I have used 1/2" ply as my shelf deck.

I still have to develop a wing storage area and since most of my planes are the two piece design, it should not be too tough.

I also have to create an area for tool boxes, etc. to prevent them from sliding around on the floor. I may build some shelving in the front end.

I bought the trailer used from a neighbor for $3,600. I then spent around $100 for a few more pieces of the E-track system. I needed to have a shelf at mid level and the E-track that was installed was not where I wanted it. However, it will come in handy for tye downs.

The suspension is an independent torsion system and it tracks very well behind the truck.

I took it out yesterday and I am very glad I went with the 6' width. The 7' would have been too wide for my mirrors and the wheel wells would have been too close to the lanes for my liking.

You might find a better deal in your neck of the woods, but you get what you pay for! I would think seriously about getting the side door. As you can see, this allows you to put a substantial shelf system in and still access gear at the front.

I'm now finding that having a front door is a really good idea...My next will have one for sure!

Mine is 5' wide and you can hardly notice you are pulling it...

I'm going to set up some hold downs and stuff today... I don't think I want to go through adding another level yet...and mines a short one so it would be a squeeze anyways.

Your correct, the side door will make life easier. However, your trailer will be great and there is lot's of ways to make the most of your space. Please post a photo or two when you can.

It would be nice to see other trailer layouts.

I just took my film in to be developed. Hope to have pictures of my trailer posted soon .

I agree and must admit that is why I don't own one myself.
It does not take long to fill one with thousands of dollars worth of RC models and to think it could be pulled away in only a few seconds just ....just....just... RIGHT I don't want to think about it anymore.

Status: offline 		Not that I have one yet. Hope to soonget one, but the talk of stealing trailers brings to mind an idea I had to protect mine when I get it.

If we are willing to spend all this money on our hobby with trailers, support equipment, and high dollar airplanes, then why not protect the investment with a security system. I have not done alot of investigation on this, but could you not install a lo-jack system onboard? With a reliable battery system I can not see why it would not work. This way, you could locate it in a fair amount of time and the theif would not even realize it was monitored, and or simplify it and just put an anoying alarm on it. By the time the theif figures out that its alarmed its to late. And for this person to disable it would require getting insde to try and find it and dis-arm it. It would definently give you time to get out of your hotel room and stop the event.

Anyway, just my .05 cents worth. Inflation way up.

Status: offline 		Yes, I think an alarm would not be a bad idea!!

A good togue lock would not hurt either along with wheel locks if applicable.

The trailer idea is catching on big in my neck of the woods and I think it's a great way to go. Plus the trailer costs so much less than maintaining another vehicle.

I have another trailer that I use exclusively for my construction business and have owned it for 12 years. I have never had someone try and steal it, but I don't leave it unattended much either.

BOY THIS "HOBBY" IS GETTNG EXPENSIVE!!!

Status: offline 		On my nitro boat trailer, the tongue breaks over, and locks. I wish I could find a cargo trailer that would do the same! Does anyone know where a guy could find this type of system?

Status: offline 		When ever I go somewhere...my trialer will be locked to my truck. With a lock on the door too. At home...it will be locked in the "hitched" postition so it would be really hard to trailer away...

Status: offline 		Master Lock makes a lock that goes in where the ball goes. It locks in there so no one can get anything in the hitch to tow it. I saw it at Wal-mart.
