I'm definately going to get a trailer after getting into larger gas planes. Hauling them in and out of the basement and packing them in the minvan every time I want to fly is a chore. I'll probably wait till next year to order it so will have it in the spring. It's almost the end of the season up here. I have to put in my garage so will most likely go with a Wells Cargo or Haulmark either 6X10 or 6X12 (maybe V nose?) with a max overall height of 82" which is the opening height of my garage. I would really like to make it a walk-in type with racks on the walls although I'm not tall (5'10" I don't think with the lower profile that I will have enough vertical space for planes. I'll probably build a full shelf for wings and then have all the fuses on the trailer floor. I'll definately add the access door as many have suggested. I was thinking of building some wood cradles lined with foam to hold the fuses or use thick foam mattress type material to lay the fuses on, then bungy everything down. What do you think?

Yeah, I figured as much but I won't be able to convince my boss (wife) that I need one now at the end of the flying season.

I am ready to install a rear shelf in my trailer and was wandering what the height should be? My tallest plane is a 33% edge 540 at 24" to the top of the rudder. I will be upgrading this year to a AW 42% Extra or a Dalton/Carden and was wandering if anyone could measure and post their max heights?

Thanks Mike

A month ago, 3 airplanes (one turbine, two electric jets) and two helicopters were stolen from my trailer. I would recommend an alarm system to anyone who has or is building a trailer. In addition, I would not put any hobby advertising on the outside. I did have some trade logos on the outside that may have tipped off what was inside. The logos are now removed. Tough way to learn but hope it might prevent the same for someone else. The secrity system I purchased is from Supervision Securitiy in Pennsylvania. Seems to have lots of features. I am in the process of installing it now. Hope it never goes off.

Nice Alarm System. One recommendation I would make. Put a switch in the wire that goes to the Electric Brakes. When pulling your trailer make sure that the switch is OPEN. There is always a possibility that the arm button on your remote could get pushed and activate your trailer alarm. Have you ever seen electric trailer brakes lock up at 60 MPH. It's something you won't forget soon.
The alarm MFG. should up grade their alarm with one.

This is a link to my Trailer project.

I also added a tilt sensor to my Alarm system. If the tongue is raised or lowered or the trailer is jacked up to remove a wheel the alarm sounds. I need to add the Solar Panel. Nice touch.

How about this for a cheap idea. take a old trailer ball, cut the threaded part that goes through your bumper off. When you are not using your trailer lock the ball in your trailer tounge with a padlock.
