Edge, I have not see your trailer so this is just a shot in the dark. Is it possible for you to build some sort of platform on the tongue of your trailer and mount the solar panel on it?

you may be right....I'll look into that idea within the next few days. Do you think that a panel mounted there is too close to the eyes of those who might want to make their very own?

I will try to get a pic or two taken today....But, the trailer I have is a Wells cargo 5X9 that I picked up two weekends ago....I love having a trailer...Now, the noses of the GS planes don't get in my way in the drivers seat....heh

And, I can take my plane when I take my 14yr olds plane to the field.

Not a problem for me ... the roof is curved, and the panel is straight, so I had to make 4 small plastic stand-offs to mount the panel to. (Just 3/4" plastic rod with holes drilled through the centre for the bolts to go through). A small dab of silicon on the roof-side end of the stand-offs ensures that that joint is watertight.

Harbor Freight has some solar panels. Don't know the price difference between anyone else. I got one awhile ago to keep the battery for my brakes charged. I noticed they also have inverters. If interested they are at www.harborfreight.com

If you ever buy anything from them they are going to send a catalog about every week. At least it seems that way to me. I'm getting them all of the time now. Lots of neat stuff .

Wow, this thread has slowed down!

Nice fenders Dago Red. For some reason I thought they would be....red . Unfortunately, I'm getting to that time of year were I have to take everything out of my trailer and store inside. I don't like to leave the planes out in the cold of winter . Bummer.

bolar, I was planing on leaving mine in the trailer. Can you please tell me your reason why you don't like leaving them in the cold, just curious as I live in TX and am not sure if it really gets cold enough down here to worry about it. I guess I can always place a small space heater in the trailer. *shrugs*

If it is just the cold your worried about.
You might want to do what my dad use to do for his Yota.

Leave a light on and the heat from the bulb will keep the chill away in a small closed area.

He use to hang a drop-light next to the 6 cylinder engine and even on the coldest days it fired right up.

I take my planes out mostly because I don't want the batteries and radio gear out in a hard freeze. I figure the stuff is going from one extreme to another if I leave it all outside. If you figure an airplane sitting outside on the flight line in the middle of summer, the inside temperature can be 100+ degrees. A few months later the outside temperature can get well below zero. I'm not sure of the science of it all, to me it makes sense to take the stuff inside. Anyhow, I have the winter to clean and tweak everything for the next flying season.

What about you guys flying in the dead of winter, no problems there, just a thought.
