Cox Electric Sportavia Release Update

All,

I talked with the marketing office at Cox last week. Initially, it was advertised to be out by the end of this summer. Cox Marketing stated that the re-issue for the Electric Sportavia is currently planned for sometime around the first quarter of 2008. Stay tuned!

All the best,
Tony

what was the the history of the molds for the cl planes ; as far as i know they have been scraped but would it be posiible for somone to trace them since they might be still at the scrap metal trader (or how you call those guys) even if they are damaged and can never be used again they still would make greath collecors items
Anyone intersted in giving it a go ?
I unfortunaly live in Ireland so its not practical fo rme to start hunting them down...

I have heard... Likely gossip and hear say that ... The Orinal Sportavia plugs were lost in a fire. The new one is all new and very close to original- only adapted to 'leckie.
I have heard... Likely gossip and hear say that ... The last PT-19 run was done in China and the moulds still exist there, in good shape.
Wouldn't that be a blast to have PT-19's available again... I would buy one just to fly it once and have one.

I can't begin to tell you how many PT19's I've owned, and now they're a rare collectable! Who'd a-thought??!!

I remember busting one up in a dogfight with a friend, then we got the wise idea of starting up the engines and tossing the fueses with no wings. We were pretending to launch missiles: Mine hit my best friends dads car; a new Linclon Continental! Oh ya, that was REAL fun! In October will be my 30th class reunion and I'm sure, like always, that incident will come up!

skaliwag and tri-pacer, http://www.virginiahobbysport.com has the PT-19 listed for sale along with others.

3352 COX9870 J-3 Cub ARF $35.99
4013 9501 F8F Bearcat Electric CL Comes without battery and Charger $37.48
4009 COX4070 Skymaster Easyflyer Series NOS $46.95
4015 COX4080 Piper Commanche NOS Easyflyer Series $49.98
4014 9561 F8F Bearcat Electric CL Comes with Battery and Charger NOS $49.99
133 9800 AT-6 Texan NOS $49.99
965 5700 PT-19 Flight Trainer $50.08
3630 COX6020 Hyper Viper fully stunt capable .049 dual port engin $50.39
4012 COX9891 AT-6 Texan Bomber NOS $57.68

While I have yet to deal with them, I have read only fine accounts of others doing business with them.

skaliwag, as for the plan you mention I believe, it actually was not a ME-109 but a profile ME-190 Butcherbird which came with the replacement wing set for the ME-109 Super Stunter as a freebee. This was done apparantly to help promote both sales of the replacement wing set and also to possibly to encourage the public to design other planes to be able to use these very lightweight foam wings in other projects.
To my knowledge the ME-190 Butcherbird plan was the only one.

The Cox PT-19 brings back wonderful memories of cool mornings at the park or school yard. The sound of the aluminum 1/2A glow power fuel can as you squeeze it to fuel your model. The challenge of keeping the little fuel hose on the fill port and or course, hoping your little Eveready 1 1/2 volt battery still has enough power to heat up the glow plug. Yeah....it definitely beats sitting in front of the TV or computer all day. It's amazing how I could recognize the sound of a model engine from a half mile away. I would get on my bike and race to see who was flying at the park. Yup...it's a Cox C/L F-15 on the baseball diamond or how about the .049 powered Hydro Blaster on the lake.

Let me know if any of you had the same sort of memories.

Hi,

Please post a follow up if/when you get video (as you mentioned) uploaded.

I used to have one of those Cox 182s. I would love to see it in flight again.

Thanks.

What kind of foam?
It is my understanding that a company which made foam egg cartons was contracted to make the molded wing panels. These were simply folded along the LE and a strip of double sided tape a quarter of an inch wide was used to secure the TE. Whatever kind of foam is (or was) used to make foam egg cartons was the same thing used in the wing panels. Very thin and yet still a little bit of rigidity with the only help for a spar being about 6 inches of a beam either side of the fuse for internal support. This is clearly seen on the plan.
They came in two colors. A sort of light blue ( as was used on the ME-109 Super Stunter and white as used on the Super Chipmunk offered a little later.

As I also understand, there was a later version of the ME-109 which had solid foam wings. I have never seen one of these myself in person.

The egg carton style wing sets come up on $bay frequently. Not all have the free plan set. I have also seen the plan come up for sale from time to time but not with the same regularity as the wing sets.
