, first off let me introduce myself since this is my first post here. I have been into R/C for as long as i can remember, i think i started in the late 80's, anyways, i have my own nitro car (onroad only) and i love it. but it gets kind of boring....

I used to drive my fathers Team Losi GTX truck around the yard, and that was really fun because i would hit bumps and jumps to make it fly, real fun. That truck is now an on road truck, because my father used to race it with other stadium trucks. I used to have a Tamiya Bigfoot, which was one of my first r/c cars, and that thing was awesome (at the time)

I pulled out my car today and went driving, and pondered about a T-Maxx...now I really want one...

I already have a radio, and everything to run Nitro, but i don't know all that much about the T-maxx, and would like to get a used one (not RTR) so it will be cheaper, and i can use all my stuff in it....

What size motor does the T-Maxx take? i am guessing my OS CV .12 won't be fitting into it? Do i need a .21? if ineed a bigger engine, i don't know what to get, i absolutely LOVE my CV, i can't get rid of it, ever since i first started it, i never had any problems with it, it would run 3 tanks of gas without having to restart it at all! what engines out there have this kind of reliability?

First off welcome to the board!!While nothing is quite as relable as an O.S the T-Maxx 2.5 RTR comes with a pretty potent powerplant. The Maxx uses a .15 size engine. The Trx 2.5 is kinda difficult to tune and keep running but it makes very good power when tuned properly. If you want a .21 power Maxx try searching E-Bay for a rolling chassis with a .21 convertion already installed.I just saw one go the other day fully hopped up with RPM parts and an XTM .21 convertion for 250 without an engine.

hmmm, so if a .15 fits, then i should be able to use my CV .12 right?

The .21 sounds amusing, but if i do get a Tmaxx i'd like to add that later on, unless i find a good deal on one with the conversion....

do people often sell the Tmaxx's not RTR? all i see is RTR

I say since you have the radio gear already go ahead and buy the Savage SS. Trust me you will not be dissapointed with a Savage.

i like how the Tmaxx looks, and the fact that there is TONS of aftermarket for it.....

then i see the Savage which seems to be right behind the Tmaxx....has anyone had both? does the Savage have a good amount of aftermarket parts?

i'd like to strengthen the front end if i get one, i have had too many broken front bulkheads, lol

a .12 wouldn't have enough power to really get any potential out of the maxx.

You don't need any aftermarket parts with the savage. Nothing will break anyway :P

The savage is not behind the T-Maxx the Savage is way ahead of it. You wont even need to upgrade the Savage cuz you most likely will not break anything. It will be hard for you to find a Savage or even 2.5 maxx for 200. Your best bet will be to get the Savage SS. You have your radio, its not RTR and you get to build it. Good thing about that is you know what your doing if something ever breaks which it probably wont. Go with the SS you will absolutely love it.

well which one drive better?, now im undecided on what to get....im tight on money right now, but if i can find someone who has one, i can offer money, and i ahve a HPI RS4 rally car which i made to be street driven, it handles very well, i'd rather not get one from ebay, they all seem to go over $250

Go ahead and get the Tmaxx. Don't be swayed by the pro savage contingent on this forum. Most of these guys never had a Tmaxx but they feel compelled to give their opinion about it anyway. You really can't go wrong with either the Savage or Tmaxx but they are 2 completely different trucks and shouldn't be compared against each other.

Hey Razoo while most of these guys may not have had both there is some that have. I feel compelled to warn the rest of the world about the garbage that TRAXXAS makes. All of the Tmaxx bashing isn't senseless, alot of us have been first hand victims of TRAXXAS junk. The HPI SAVAGE is worth so much more than a Tmaxx it isn't even funny. With the new .25 SAVAGE RTR being only $410 the way Tmaxx sales will continue is if they reduce the price by atleast $100 and that is no exageration, thats the cold hard fact.
