Status: offline 		HI, Is the 8103 worth the extra money over the HI-tec eclipse or the airtronics 6000 super? I have a JR 652 and was looking for a new radio. I just don't know If its worth it to upgrade considering you can buy 3 new planes for the price of a radio. I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and can't decide.

I have two of the 652's, They do everything i want, expo, mixes, offsets, diferential, DR.... I'm sure there are a lot of features on other radios, that are a necesity for some, but if the 652 is working for you, why change it? you got a great radio already.

The 3810?

It's in a different class really (at 8 channels) to the Hitec Eclipse (7 channels) and Airtronics RD6000 Super (6 channels). It is a very nice radio. If you want the extra channel or two (and sooner or later most of us in R/C flying do!) and if $$ are not a problem personally I would choose it over the alternatives you are considering. I would almost say:

6 ch: choose the RD6000 Super

7ch: choose the Eclipse

8 ch: tough one, either the 3810 or CAP 9/FF9 (Futaba) if shift is not a problem for your receivers - if it is stick with JR.

Just my opinion of course.

I have been flying my 8103 (3810 to you folks from AWAY - odd naming idea no? You folks can't count to 8000?? ) for 4 years now and love it.
My suggestion is to find someone selling just a Tx. Since you have JR equipement now, you can swap in a JR tx without issue. I have seen new digital trim 8103 txs going for less than $300 here and there. Used even less.
If you go with hitec, you will most likely need to replace Rxs as well....

I agree. I sold off my two 8103s when I got my 10X - I got $200 and $265 respectively.

If you go the "TX only" route make sure that the deal includes a module. The crystals in the current JR TX modules are user-swappable so you can get the radio and a crystal set on whatever frequency you're using.

(muddying the water)As an aside, both the RD6000 Super and Eclipse are shift-selectable... they will work with your existing receivers.

Status: offline 		The biggest difference between the Eclipse 7, JR 652 and the 8103 for me is the advanced mixing capabilities. Trying to do split elevator servos or multiple servos on 1 surface on the Eclipse or 652 requires that you add some type of onboard mixer or 'select' matched (and sometimes reversed) servos to do the job. With a radio like the 8103 or the Futaba 9C, special mixes with slave trim activated make it a no-brainer to set up.

Not to mention the graphic display of the 8103 gets good to you after a while, spoiling you.

IMHO, the 8103 and Futaba 9C radios are both great radios packing most of the capabilites of their big brothers (10x and 9ZAP) at less than half the price.
