Morning Folks,

I've run a search for "Magnum Fuels" to see what the difference between their #1, #2, and #3 is. I had no luck, and even their FAQ page is down. Would someone be good enough to help me out with this? Thanks...

I just got some Magnum #1 fuel from a LHS I don't know well. I asked for some 20% nitro fuel for a YS 63. The owner said all the pattern guys use Magnum #1 for their YS engines. When I got home and looked at the container it didn't say what the mix was. I don't know if it is 20 %, if it has any castrol, etc. I went to the Magnum Fuel site and got nothing. I did get an email address.

Did you find out anything about this fuel?

Our club made a large purchase of Magnum fuel last year. I'd never heard of it but our club president had used it. Interestingly, our president was a pattern competitor when he started using Magnum.

I've run over 5 gallons of the 'Premium Sport 10%' through my Thunder Tiger 61 and it seems to be as good as any other brand. We ordered 33 cases total, various blends, and got 10% off of the prices on the web page; and the price included shipping from Colorado to Texas.

Use the 'contact' link on the web site to ask specific questions.

The Magnum fuel is a very good fuel. I have used it in my ducted fan jets with excellent results. Very clean burning. I have also used it in sport planes. Great Stuff. Good people to order it from as well. They treat you right.

I emailed the Magnum Fuel people and got a reply to call Buzz. I did and he said exactly what their #1 mix consists of is proprietary but people use it in YS engines lots and it works great. It performs "like 25 to 30% nitro". The oil is a synthetic/castrol mix about like most others. I am going to run it.

Historically, Buzz at Magnum has not revealed the nitro content of his #1, #2, #3, etc. He used to claim (still does, maybe) his fuels produced higher power because of some "miracle additives," or oils or something (forgotten exactly what the claim was). A number of years ago, I ran some Magnum fuels through a gas chromatagraph. It's been a long time, but to the best of my memory, they contained unusually high nitro content...something like 20% or 30% in #1, and on up the line.

More nitro = more power. Not much mystery in that.

Magnum fuel is popular with pattern flyers, along with Powermaster, Coolpower and others. The understanding among my flying buddies is that Magnum I is ~25% nitro, Magnum II is ~30%. I've been flying Magnum I this season in my YS engines, and am very happy with it. We got some guys together and ordered 16 cases. My cost was $50/case shipped ($12.50/gal). I think the guy who received the shipment got a little better discount for his trouble in stocking the fuel until we all made our pick-ups. Delivery took about two weeks to the Boston area.

Hi Ed,

I have used Magnum #1 for about 10 years. It's nitro content is approx. 23% +-, and #2 is supposed to be about 30%, and #3 is about 35%.

It works very well in the YS engines!

running the 20 % car fuel in my Tower ST 15 truck , works well, also runs well in 2 stroke 46s airplane engines.

I have to say this anyone who claims their mix a corporate secret is full of it.

I refuse to purchase a fuel unless I know what is in it, or at least what they claim is in it.

This is why I mix my own fuel, I know what goes in it and through my engines.

Guess what they will tell you when your engine is dead and it was caused by the fuel, "that should have worked" But you are still out an engine.

No thank you.

Mike
