I was thinking of a 1st low wing warbird and i was thinking along the lines of a Mustang or Corsair. I have been able to fly a high wing for about 4 years now and i'm really interested in low wing warbirds.

Any suggestions???

When this question is asked people usually recommend a Jug (P-47)... Though there are several you could start with... Mike

Great Planes makes a good stand off scale P51. I had the P51 and it flew well. I believe it used the Ultra Sport airfoil (at least thats what I was told).

They also make a Corsair but it isn't nearly as scale as the P51 which is scale only in outline. I never had the Corsair so I can't say how it is to build or fly. At least the wing isn't as hard to build as the Top Flite version (which I do have) based on the fact that it has a sharp angle at the gullwing area.

You might want to build and fly some other low wing plane first. A Sig 4*40 or Goldberg Tiger 2 for example. Both build and fly well and can be made as taildraggers.

Hi,

Do you have a specific countries warbirds in mind,

The Focke-Wulf FW-190A series is a good model, the landing gear track is wide, unlike the spitfire and me-109. the model also flies really well, or that is what i've been told.

One gets a really good model from Dave Platt, http://www.daveplattmodels.com, but this is a high fidility scale model, i am building one at the present time.

please look at my thread, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_858715/mpage_1/key_dave%252Cplatt%252Cfw%252D190%252Cproject/anchor/tm.htm#858715

on the other hand, it might be a good idea to get the four star to get used to the lower wing models, We have one and it is a real beauty when it comes to flying and it looks really good if you build it correctly.

regards

Werner

The Great Planes P-51 built from a kit is an excellent choice for a first warbird. easy to build, looks great, and has absolutely no bad flying habits. It says it is a .46 size airplane but it can accept a very wide variety of engine sizes without degrading flight performance. I have had two of them. One was equipped with an OS .65VRDF ducted fan engine, and the other was equipped with an OS 1.20 Surpass II 4 stroker.

With this one, there is no need to build any other low wing tail dragger first!

My trainer was also a Kyosho Spit, and it was a nice and easy plane to fly. I would not get a Corsair as your first warbird.

Mike Buckley's mention of the P47 is correct, most of the old timers will tell you that a P47 lands like a trainer.
One other plane that owners of will tell you that fly's easy and lands easy is the
A1 Skyraider.

With the Skyraider you have a few choices
1. Zeroli Plans
2. Small 50 - 60 size with 60 " span from Skyshark
3. Giant Scale from America Eagle
4. Giant Scale from Four Pi

I'm still trying to decide which one.
