gpmikemorse-RCU -> What should receiver do when transmitter is off? (4/30/2002 10:17:18 PM)

Last time I was at the field, I accidently turned my airplane on while the transmitter was off. The servos chattered like crazy. One of the experienced guys said, "That's not a good sign!". I checked around, and there was nobody on my channel, and when I turned on my transmitter all was good. I did a range check, and went flying, and all was well.

I will admit that most of the time if I turn on the receiver without the transmitter being on, the servos are quiet, so there was *something*.

Should I have been worried? The experienced guy implied that I shouldn't have flown.

I have seen it happen a thousand times. I wouldn't let it bother you.

Some recievers are more likely to do that than others, but it really isn't a problem. Just give the reciever what it is looking for, and you both will be happy.

You should never turn the receiver on without the transmitter or it will just pick up stray signals and could overdrive your servos and potentially strip the gears.

It means absolutely nothing. As long as you get a solid range check you are good to go!

Mike.
