Now, I have the original power system from SPAGI (motor, battery and ESC) laying around, so I figured out, I better use it somewhere. And here it goes. I'm building something (I don't have name for it yet ) between MUGI and DDUST.
It's a delta pusher, 28 in wingspan, powered by ZAGI 400 pusher and 5x5 prop, Pixie 20 ESC, 950mAh NiMh, 2 HS81, and 555 receiver. 2 mm coroplast of course. The plane alone (without electronics) is 6 oz so RTF weight should be around 18 oz (maybe less). The profile is even slicker than SPAGI.
Pictures will follow.

I built a powered Mugi and a powered Dazi once. They were both dissapointing.
The Dazi weighed in at about 4 ounces more than my 400x.
How thick was your wing section?

I have built both: SPAGI and electric DDUST pusher. Basically the same design, just SPAGI = the flying wing, and DDUST = delta. Both have spars 3/4 inch thick at the root, and 1/16 at the tip. The thickest part is the nose, where the battery is. Both are very, very slick. Sharp leading edge and thin airfoil = almost zero drag. To that extend, that the theoretical speed (prop rpm times pitch) is almost the same as the plane airspeed. Yes, the plane might be heavier than the foam wing, but you can't build such strong and slick foam wing without putting a whole bunch of carbon fiber tubes in there.

I have nothing against Zagi. This is where the original idea came from. I just didn't feel like paying $50 for the foam plane, that I can have for $3 worth piece of coroplast

I wish, one day Mitek let me borrow his brushless setup from SPAGI and put it on my DDUST

I'm coming out to Sacramento for a week starting December 8. Where do you fly ? If I can find a place, I can bring out my gnat and maybe one other plane.

It's Coooold here in Des Moines.

Hi Joe,

We fly at MASM. For directions see the website:
http://masm.inc.home.comcast.net

During the daylight there are some people during the weekdays (but not many), most of the flying is going on weekends. I used to fly Sundays around the noon.

It's colder here (at least it feels like ) - there is a frost in the morning with temperature around 32. I rather prefer summer time.

recently after getting bored with my zagi's limitations, I decided to build a fast better wing. I looked every where on the net for a electric powered delta wing with no success so I decided to build my own.
after playing with a homemade foam cutter what I came up with was as follows

wing span 29.5in
tip cord 4.5in
center cord 16in
auw (electronics and all) 36.5oz
cg 7in from leading edge

the airfoil was made from hand (thin semi-symmetrical)
center fuselage was reinforced with red coroplast for impact resistance since the airfoil is all eps foam.
wing lets were placed in the center for that jet like appearance, also made of coro reinforced with push rod wire.

the power system is as follows
mega 16/15/3 w/5.7x3 prop
castle creations 45amp phoenix
3s3p lithium polymer(10-12 cell sub-c packs would work as well)

I am very pleased with the speed and lack of fear from the likes of zagi flap.
speed is about an insane 85mph at level flight and my guess of 120mph on descent

the lithiums give me a flight time of 21-30 min
I haven't flown my zagi since

you have to be very quick on your toes, I hand launch this plane by gripping the nose and at full throttle tossing it up at about a 45 degree angle.the first flight I had a friend toss it up so I could set the control throws. each launch after that is easily done solo
this is my best plane yet, next I plane to use the same airfoil to build my first jet.
glad I used the coroplast fuselage it has saved from a few crashes and hard landings

This is for all of you Spagi and zagi flyers
While trying to launch my spagi last weekend, i was holding it in front of the prop, like you do to launch it and gues what happened

That's right, after fearing of getting interfernece for so long and getting my fingers banged, I did the job myself without help from radio interference. I accidentaly bumped the throttle stick and and the fury of the Mega 400 at half throttle was unleashed on my middle finger. Its not too bad, just a little banged, but if you launch your zagi that way, either be extra careful or get a handle. I'm gonna go with the second option.
I was told by a fellow club member to wave my middle finger in the air to let the wound dry, but I don't think that would have been beneficial

I's been a long time I think it was about 22%-25% MAC.

Years went by, and somewhere...

Someone decided to try a nitro spad zagi anyway: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4524011/tm.htm

I just stumbled on this old thread, and read its arguments against the nitro option, and I thought it would be interesting to cross reference. Zagis always land nose first? Lucky for me I wasn't aware of that.

My nitro version isn't designed for speed. I went with a 14% wing thickness for all out fun. However if speed is your game you could trim the spar.
