Finally After building lots of spads and Balsa Edges and Extra 300 I am back . I built the Spad3D and was to test fly it ysday but coz of a leaking tank i aborted. This week surely i will try again

Built from a rectangular 1.5"X1" aluminium pipe thats 36" long and engine mounted directly on the pipe no extra cutting board needed the plane has come to 2000 gms RTF w/o fuel

I wonder if this is the plane that will make me the **star** at my flying field

Cheers
Sunil

Nice job rikhye.

If it flies as well as it looks, you should have a blast with it. And if you're having fun with it, then you're a "star" even if only in your own mind (way toooo deep)

Good luck and just enjoy it,

Well I'm finally finished. All that's left to do is connect the last 2 pushrods. This is my first SPAD attempt. Notice that the music wire passes through the U-Channel. I also used a skid in place of the tail wheel. I figure that the takeoff roll is so short that the tail wheel wouldn't be necessary. It is 36" x 36", has a K&B .61 to power it, and weighs about 3 3/4 lbs. I've almost finished my Pizza Box Flyer too. I have to install the radio gear to complete it. Here are the pics. Let me know what you think.

That is a fantastic looking plane. If it flys as good as it looks, you'll have a winner.

You might want to think about MW for the landing gear. My aluminum gear only lasted about two weeks.

flight report : I dont know what to say but one thing is for sure it was not a complete test flight.

First i had a lot of problem with my tank and eventually when i thought it was ok it climbed and went dead stick so that was a compulsory landing LG bent but realised this can glide in even if fast.

Anyway in the next flight it took off beautifully but went up straight vertical even to get it to level i had to give 100% up elevator anyother plane would have gone into the ground this just levelled out.... CG too far back i presume so i will try again nexct time by shifting the wing back 1-2 " but it did give me some scary moments where there was no control it would just want to stay vertical lower throttle i got it back so i guess the CG should be about 4" from the LE NOT 6" as suggested

GUys anyone with similar experience ?

Check the ailerons. Reflex them up level to 1/4 inch above the channell center line. This makes a huge difference.

I would'nt do the downthrust thing yet. The aileron reflex is verry important on these planes. I am running two aileron servos mixed with the radio and I can adjust them in flight with the flap knob. This is cool, because you get the opportunity to see what effect these adjustments have instantly and have the ability to correct an out of trim condition without landing.

BTW have you tried flying inverted an to see if it stalls up? When I first flew mine, it would stall up while inverted, so I moved the CG up until it neutraled out. Then I started playing with the reflex. My CG is appx 6 1/2".

Let us know how it flies with the reflex.

Nice JOB, I'll bet you can pull 30+ G's and that fuel tank wont move.

for once i built this using a single wing servo so i guess i will have to lpay with the connecting wires to the ailerons

Finally the spad 3d flew today and convinvced me i am on the right path to learn hovering .

novabillss thanks your suggestion about the aileron reflex ... it completely changed the planes up climbing chararterstic but one thing i noticed .... trying to hover it would "fall back" .... anything to do with the ailerons ?

had 3 flights 3 hard landings nothing much happened LG straightened and off you go .... ofcourse on the 2nd flight i released it from my hand

great plane !
