If the airplane is about to fall out of the sky, by all means firewall that throttle. it could be that you have been able to climb with half throttle, but it would depend on the angle of attack of the model before you tried to climb.. In Real planes, you can get into a high angle of attack slow flight, and it will require almost full throttle to maintain it without stalling, and can be difficult to get out of that high angle without losing altitude. In models it is always safer to use the power and controls to make the model do what YOU want the model to do. Being that models are rarely powered to scale it is pretty easy to get out of a sticky situation with full throttle. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

FW

Probably. Basic misuse of the controls is another way of putting it. It's the throttle that controls height. If you want to climb add throttle.

As FW says our models are often so overpowered that you get away with using the elevator but one of the few things I remember from my (partial) full size training is throttle controls altitude, elevator controls speed. It doesn't sound right initially, but try it and you'll see what it means. Close the throttle and the plane comes down, nothing you can do with the elevator will stop it.
