Matchless, don't know how in the heck you get the time to crank all those designs out! Amazing! That Mudbug is absolutely the cutest little feller I ever saw! Bet it takes smooth water,ha!

I gotta tell ya, these days when almost all you see is ARF's in the mags and catalogs, it's great to hang out on this forum where a lot of design work is going on! Please don't think I'm dumping on ARF's, they have their place. It's just that I personally don't like them because they don't let me have the fun of building and designing the models.

Here's one I built a few yrs back from a mod of an electric presented in Flying Models. It was powered by an AP-29 and was by my mind something which could be flown at a lighter wingloading by dumping the batteries and going back to "wet" power.......Mine flies at just over 15 oz compared to the 22-24 oz weight of the electric version.

Rifleman7,

That plane looks a lot like an electric design of mine that was published in the August 1994 Model Builder magazine called the EX-29. It used the Kyosho AP-29 motor.

Right you are Al, sorry for reporting it as Flying Models, but now that you mention it, Model Builder seems like it would have been the one to have that plane in it.....after all MB was THE premier mag for us guys who like to fly small. I still have a huge collection of Mooney plans from the center spreads.

Believe it or not, the prototype EX-29 still exists. I traded it to a buddy of mine some years back and to my knowledge he's never flown it. I used to fly it a lot, and even thermalled it on occasion. With today's light weight batteries, it'd really perform well.

Yes, it was a shame when Bill Northrop sold Model Builder magazine, it didn't survive long after the next guy had it. Was a great magazine for guys who liked to build. Most of those peanuts could be converted to RC these days using the light weight indoor stuff.

When I lived in the Toronto area, I saw a few of the XP-29 in its original config, but mine was the only one I knew of with the conversion to 1/2A "Wet" power system.....mine flew superbly after I added the turned up wingtips....it was a tad slow on turn before that as I had lowered the dihedral to get more wing presented to thermals in large flat circles.....I have been a glider flier since the early 90's and still have one Sagitta kit left to finish......flew two of them back in those days, one with R/E/S and one with a bashed wing for full 6 servo setup- F/A/R/E and camber control provided by JR-347 then the 783 upgraded to 388 software........

I also flew with some neat guys indoors...you can view them here

Maiden flight is tomorrow. The OS 15 LA is well over the top for this 28inch wingspan model, but its the engine I keep handy for all my electric to IC conversions. The best in the past was a Jamarra/Wattage Extra 330L.
This is a Wattage Decathlon and looks great. Only problem is the stickers arn't fuel proof.

Was your F16 a Kyosho Ducted Fan originally? Did the conversion to a pusher improve the performance?

Sopwith Pup. Scratchbuilt. 32" span. All rigging and closed loop control cabling is functional. Throttle on PAW .03 diesel, elevator, coupled aileron and rudder. Still have final cosmetics to do (cockpit coaming, pilot bust to install), but test flights are this weekend, weather permitting!

Okay, here are some rather poor pictures (not enough light -- it's mid-fall and we're already experiencing mid-winter temperatures and lousy weather here :-(

This is my MiniStick with a Norvel 061, 4-channels, 36" wing-span and all-up (over)weight of 23 ounces (give or take an ounce).

Not flown yet -- blame the weather again.

Oh yeah, I've still got to add the iron crosses to the wings (how much does iron weigh? :-)

My Decathlon didn't really fly a scale speed. 3 attempts at take-off all caused a hard left turn on the ground. Then I tried a hand-launch, which was a bit light and caused it to fly straight into the ground (broke the undercarriage). One last try, a hard throw into wind. It banked left and then immediatly came under control.
I was flying this thing faster than the other guys with there 40 size models. Unlimited verticle, stall turns, axial and barrel rolls then lot.
Having no undercarriage I cut the engine on finals and glided in. It was easy until the last foot when it dropped, luckily flat on its belly (no further damage).
I'm going to replace the OS 15LA with my AP Hornet 0.9.
