It's built pretty light but that'll make it a good flier. I cut my retract links off with a cutoff disc on a dremmel tool. Using the flexible extension I cut them off after they were attached to the servo.

I used a wire cutter - about 30 years old, cut it like soft butter! But the working space was limited!

Jerry

PS Don't think I'll test fly it this weekend - NO SPINNER - oredered one from CB Assoc. and it hasn't arrived...bummer huh?

Well I finally got my retracts working last night and it looks great. I used a JR 9021 servo as the retract servo had to much movement in it and the fit is so tight you can not make any bends in the wire to correct it. I had no problems with the 9021 and tested it for a couple of hours. I slowed the servo down to 2 seconds travel time to make it look more scale. I think it worked really well as 1 wheel comes up a little faster than the other. As for moving the tail wheel forward I did find a way to do it but because I have the tail uncovered it will be easy. If you leave the tail covered then it will be a little more difficult. I am building a plate that will screw in that has the tail wheel connected to it. This will be a pull pull system as will be the rudder. I will try to get some pics posted as soon as possible. It was to late last night so I will try tonight. I am going to use something along the lines of 1/64 ply for fake tailwheel doors and they will be connected to the block so if anthing happens to it I should be able to just make a new tail wheel plate and go with out having to do any damage to the plane. As for drop tanks. I talked to Greg at IMP and he said he had some that might work. They are 7" long and cost is $22. I am not sure if this is for two tanks or just one. You will also have to make your own release or jerry rig one. I hope everyone is enjoying their mustang as much as I am. This is one fine bird built VERY well and should fly very light. Even with the mods I am doing it should only weigh about 8lbs with a YS 91.

What do you guys think the Hanger 9 P-51 will fly like using a Saito .72, do you think it would be enough engine??
I read the earlier post that the Saito 1.00 is a bit too much.

i believe u can most definetley under power a plane. ive done it. and wont do it again. they say u can use a 72 and as good as they run ill bet it would fly it. but the saito 100 will most definetley fly it. u can always use the throttle thumb to control speed. u dont have to fly it wide open all the time. but its nice to have that power when u need it. mine is getting the 100. no more chancing smaller engines. my h9 sport cap flys great with a ys 63. my aresti with a 72 and my pizazz flys great with a 72. plenty of power. but i think this plane will way more than 5.5 pounds. so for what its worth id go the 100. cya bill

i love my sport cap. ys 63. i love it. it is nothing but fun. it flys super well. it looks good. unlike what others say. all the gys at the field love it. it will knife edge all day. u can fly this plane all over the field in a knife edge. it snaps like lightning. i have not had one problem with it. and it lands great. this is a great plane. no matter what anyone says.

The book says the CG is 4.75 back from the LE.
Exactly WHERE does one measure THIS on a
tapered wing!
Let me know - I think I am nose heaveeeey.

next to the fuse. it should tell u to measure it as close to the fuse as possible. thats where all my planes have been balanced. so if ur using ur fingers or a cg machine of some sort. let it rest on the wings right next to the fuse bill

My wife got me one for my birthday. Does anyone know where I can get different decals made for it? I want to name it for my wife whose name is not Marie. I bought a Saito .91 Golden Knight for it. I figured since the engine sticking out wouldn't be scale that at least those two golden valve covers sticking out would make it look that much better. I thought about a Saito 100, but too many people around here have had problems with vibration breaking mounts and muffler pipes and valve keepers falling off. I have one on a 4 Star 60 and have not had any problems. But those gold valve covers just got to me. I also had to order a spinner. Something about everyone being out of stock due to this plane.

Thanks,
Tim

We have a local franchise called Signmasters - they can make most anything in vinyl. ( I am copying the decal sheet in vinyl) Look in the phone book under signs and you will find a shop that can make you a new name.

Thanks Capt G. Also if anyone used a pilot figure, which one did you use?

Ok I am going to try to post some pics. I added a Top Flight display prop to make it look a little better when I am not flying it. I also got the tail wheel on and working (thanks to Dave at my LHS).
