how the hell did you do that renegade? Ive seen TC's with .21's that do nothing to the stock drivetrain. The transmission is solid until u stick something bigger than a .25 in it. I've seriously jumped this thing over 20 feet in the air and landed doing cartwheels, and nothing broke. Ask dagass, he is who i drive with. This thing takes a beating as much as his 8th scale buggy.

Tamiya basically did what HPI did to the Savage. Fixed all the things that the people complained about. They took out the wierd qwarky reverse system, the transmission is much lighter being forward only, the chassis now fully extends all the way across the truck, and the engine was replaced with an actual OS built .18 with a conservative 1.35 claimed hp (i say conservative because it probably is a bit stronger). They also replaced the stock Terra Crusher tires with much lighter wheels, with out the huge sidewalls. there are a few other small things like linkage setup and such, but the basic geometry and size is still the same. The same suspension is used and gears in the diffs, shocks etc etc. Anybody with a terra crusher can easily change the TC to a TNX by buying a new chassis (cheap by GPM for maybe 15$) and a new gear box, or transfering the TC gearbox to the TNX. All parts from the TNX are transferable to the TC. That answer your question a bit?

Does the Wasp 26 bolt right in with no other changes?

Casey, I have been in this hobby for only 3 years and now own a mgt, ss ,gs storm , xtm xcellerator. I had a tmaxx and was not very impress very good suspension weak .15 engine but run ok after I ported it, still too much plastic and too expensive to upgrade. I then sold it to purchased a tc when there was so much hype over it.. the truck was good but I did not like the engine suspension was ok looks were good but very poor engine hard to get parts, transmission's tendency to slip , reverse was hard to use and ok electronics . Go to terracrusher treads and you would see how many people had problems with these issues . I sold my tc and got a savage 21 and recently upgraded it for a ss so that I could build it from scratch. The savage is by far a better produtc than the tc. I just got a mgt over 1 month ago and I am very impress with the mgt. It gives you a great truck to build on from. That is what this hobby is all about you hop the truck to and get it to do what you want.( top speed whelies handling). the mgt has a great suspension, great stock engine and perhaps the best drive line on the market. Yes you may have to buy a .26 to make it faster but everyone is not looking for top speed out of a monster truck. If all I wanted was top speed I would buy a nitro street car. Unless you have own all products you can't talk. Perhaps you have a personal problem with associated or work for tamiya , traxxas. You can not compare the mgt to a tmaxx or a tc. Perhaps you and your truck need to jump off the house and then tell us the damage. I have read this tread and think you are full of sh****.You need to find a tread that supports the tc were you can bash all other products you dont own.The top speed on the tc is about 32-35 mph that is not much faster than the mgt. Get the facts before you start to post garbage

How about everyone design the ultimate truck.A truck we can jump off our houses with! Then we'll flood the market with it. When this happens and we take over the market we'll all run the SAME truck! No variety for ANYONE!

Same threads on every forum: My truck is better than yours, this truck stinks that one doesn't,
savage this ,t-maxx that. If there was no variety we'd all have the exact same truck and complain about not getting something different.

I'am a t-maxx owner,I run with a savage owner. We have fun, which is the name of the game.
The GT came out late and that got people upset,GET OVER IT! This guy got a gt and put a badass motor in it and is happy with it! Right on go with what you got and HAVE FUN! I'am glad you got something you LIKE! BTW the motor looks really cool!

I can jump off my house with my truck and it wont break :-/

and renagaderc, my whole point of the MGT is, they waited over 9 months to release it (usually a first look from RCCA [in dec 2002] means release within 3 months) and they kept pushing it back, supposably making it better and better. It was a giant marketing scam. If the truck held up to the hype, great, but it didnt. It's basically jus another MT on the market, yet this one has nothing special to offer. Its not the biggest, its not the baddest, its not the fastest, its not the strongest. I mean it was called the "BFT big f'in truck" yet its same size as mine, and smaller than the XTM Mammoth. whats up with that? The engine is under powered, like all of AE's engines (will give it that it is a rtr engine). It's jus not what I expected. Sure, if i felt blowing 500$ on an RC jus to have the 'newest bad boy out' was my game, id buy it. But I don't want to spend 500$ + another 150-175$ for it to be as fast as my Terra Crusher. thats almost 700$ right there, lil more and I can buy a 1/6th scale or 1/5th scale car, or a high end buggy. Its not worth the $$$ IMO. If it was 400$ id jump on it, but that 100$ does make a difference.

I have had a ton of RC stuff over the past few years, and here is my take on things....

I started out with the old T Maxx. Who ever that goof is that says TT engines are underpowered, is an idiot.

We used to run the Old .15 engines untill the piston and sleeve wore out, (about a gallon of fuel) and we were running the AE .15 engines in our T Maxxes. We were buying them on e bay as take outs from parted out RTR AE RC10GTs.

Dead stock, with an 18t cb and some minor tweaking, those engines would hal serious AZZ. We were flat track racing those trucks, and after some ninor crank work, I had one in a T MAXX pulling a 20/64 gear ratio on our 460ft flat dirt tri oval, and that truck had been clocked at 45 mph ON DIRT, with both front tires barely touching the track. NO BS folks, we have them on video tape going down the back straight skipping the front wheels at over 40 mph.

Anyhow, the old T Maxxes were good trucks, they just needed a better engine, or at least a ported .15. If anyone is familiar with that old T Maxx site out of Colorado, (I don't remember the name of it right now) I am the guy who ported the stock .15 engines that they had featured on that site. Yea, those engines were still JUNK, but they were capeable of making good power with some porting work, and a sharp tuner.

I ported an AE 15 for a buddy of mine who was racing an RC10GT on alphault on a tri oval at a local hobby center. His truck held the track record for a LONG LONG time there with one of my ported AE 15 engines. It made more power than he could get the truck to hold. It would literally carry both front wheels all the way down the back straight at half throttle.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with a T Maxx, and the new trucks with the 2.5 flat out run. They can be made even faster with a little work to the crank, but they are so good out of the box, there really isn't any need to mess with them IMO.

I got out of the hobby for a while, and I just bought a 2.5 T, and I have a new MGT on the way. If you can't look at the new MGT and tell its the best Nitro RC truck on the planet, you must be smothered in dumbness.

Well after 3 months of joy I finally stuck a Wasp .26 engine in my MGT and wow does this truck rip now.

The engine just bolts in place of the existing engine, the engine mounts on the MGT can be aligned to fit all .21 size engines. Make sure when tightening the engine down that the engine bell is not to tight against the spur gear so it can move freely. The only other thing other than the engine that is needed to convert to .26 is a glow plug.
The truck move with lightning speed from go now and overall fun factor has doubled although I was thrilled with the truck from box. (Note this Engine doesn't run properly on a 20% nitro mix, needs either 25% or 30% to be able to tune)

The MGT handles really well when U get used to applying throttle and brakes @ the right point, and will slide beautifully round corners. This truck jumps well and the balance is great (as long as U maintain the throttle when landing or it will roll the car as with any others). Speed is fine as stock for the most (I love more power so I had to add the Wasp .26) The engine was so easy to tune after braking in (followed the instructions to the letter). The truck seamlessly floats over rough terrain even with the stock setup. The ground clearance is fantastic and the truck will roll over most things that get in the way (I got good @ jumping over it). Reverse shift is smooth and won't engage until the engine revs are low, so no fear of damaging the gears. Lots of parts on this truck that would be extra on most other out of the box trucks (reverse, full bearings, etc).

The only things that wasn't to happy with are the steering is a bit sluggish, the front bumper isn't so strong (but did remove a small brick wall so maybe that was my fault), and the brakes R a bit soft. These R only minor things can be rectified with some hop-ups and a bit of TLC.

I think this is a great truck and is well worth the value. Thunder Tiger and Associated Engineering together worked wanders on this truck.

Other mods to my vehicle R:
1) have added a 17t bell
2) has Hummer H2 top with full lights (LED home built setup with bought neons) (so can be used after work in the cold dark UK nights, can see the truck from a good distance in the dark now) Saved my stars and stripes from being destroyed.
3) added a 5 cell battery pack to the receiver to boost the servo power (this helps a lot with the steering servo).
4) temp gun (for tuning)
5) control failure engine power cut
6) rotor start (although I use a cordless drill instead of the start box as the speed can be increased so not to apply large pressure instantly to the starter assembly). When adding the rotor start to the Wasp or Picco .26 add a hex nut between the casing of the rotor start and the gear that drives the engine shaft so that it engages the engine properly(I think I used a Savage or a T-maxx wheel hex).

Next mods are to add:
1) a digital servo to the steering and use the steering servo on the brake/accelerator assembly.
2) factory team steering setup and servo saver
3) better tuned pipe
4) new era (real) piggyback shocks maybe will keep looking for a while
5) new era front skid plate and maybe maybe the wheelie bar
6) new era racing roll cage
7) better brakes
8) better radio gear
9) different wheel/tires
10) will see what else comes out for this truck then add it if its good.

If U want to see a top video of this truck go to
http://media.wildhobbies.com/monstergt_review.wmv
I love the way this truck holds up to the treatment it gets.

I have raced this truck against T-maxxs, Savages and other such trucks and have so far won 6 out of 10 races, this was with original stock setup.
Just thought I would add this post to try and redirect the chat of this forum. The aim of this game is to have a laugh, escape from day to day hassle, meet new people and enjoy your self.
Enjoy your truck what ever U may have, I've watched lots of other trucks and most R pretty impressive.

3 months of fun... 1 broken bumper.... Several gallons of fuel... Hours of joy.... NO REGRETS!!!

Finally a good post!!!

I haven't used my MGT much, but I am doing a lot of upgrades. I bought the MGT because it is the best available today. I have over $1000 in it and am not done yet, but the point is that I bought it because it is the best platform to start with.

Who cares about top speed? Unless you are drag racing a football field it doesnt matter. Its about accelleration if you want to win races.

I am using a picco .26, actually haven't even broken it in yet, and I am running Jumbo Kong 8.5" tires which are HEAVY. I am looking for the gears which will give me the most torque possible or the lowest top speed. This engine turns more RPMs than the stock one and the tires are much larger so they do not need to turn as fast to match the speed of the other trucks.

What are the "quickest" gears I can get? Where can I get a larger/stronger clutch setup? Are gears from any other trucks/cars compatible with the MGT? I know my spur gear is a 52 stock, but I dont know the pitch. I have seen ones for the Tmaxx which were in the 70s. Are these the same size?

If anyone has some links to buy new gears put em up here!

I have been ridiculed for my previous post about the Monster Gt but I always said if the Gt would have come with a .26 it would have been something more to talk about off the shelf. Not that the Thunder tiger isn't a good engine but a .26 would give that truck some serious balls!!!!!!!!

I have the MGT . I love it. After being able to drive almost any and every Nitro MT truck out there(since i own A hobby shop), this one is the best. It will only be a matter of time b4 everyone starts catching on. I just got 20 MGT's in stock. They sat for 2 weeks , and not one sold. Well i finally broke one open and ripped her around the in the front of the shop. I gave demo rides to all the locals. Guess what? i sold all 20 of them this week. I guess , people need to drive for THIS PUPPY FOR themselves. AT 479.99 it is alot for a Mt.,BUT THIS ONES WORTH EVERY PENNY.

After reading this whole thread I'm glad the jr high kid decided to leave the thread. And some more mature people are posting about the topic and not how the MGT compares to other RC's.

I got my MGT the day after Christmas (guess I wasn't that happy with my other gifts)... It is my first RC and I love it. It is taking me a while to tune the nitro. I have no experience with nitro. I'm getting pretty close and have enjoyed driving my MT around the back yard. It sounds a lot like my Honda CR250R ehhehe.

When this engine wears out maybe I will replace it with one of the picco .26 motors. But for now the stock engine is enough for me!

BTW don't you have to change the flywheel and clutch assembly when switching to the picco .26? Also I noticed in the picture that the carburetor linkage is the wrong direction. Do you just remove and rotate it 180 degrees?

The carb's can be taken off and turned around on all engines, so no problems there. Also, it is recommended to pick up a new clutch kit with the .26 for the best fit. We put this deal together just for MGT people.

First of all: Casey you are a lil beyotch. Second of all; you are very ignorant, the MGT is exactly what this hobby needs--kick ass and reliable right-out-of-the box baby! Take your terra sucker and go suck at sucking. I race motocross and take my truck to the supercross track all the time trying to break it, 1.5 gallons later; a cracked front bumper insert, never missed a shift, and never has died or overheated. All I am sorry casey, I take everything back, what a pos, wanna trade that terra sucker?

my mgt is better acceleration than my savage 25 stock, everyone that OWNS one likes it, who goes 50 with a monster truck anyways? i drive mine on the dirt and its better than the savage or t maxx there. im gonna have the savage as an extra for my friends to race me with but i cant wait to put a 26 in the mgt and a forward only. nothings broke on it and on the savage just stripped wheels and scratched up. theyre both pretty good.

casey how can you like terra crushers and say mgt is slow? the terra is the same size and got rated at 27 mph and is discontinued even tamiya admits that truck sucked and is already launghing the replacement
