I'd reccommend that you check rcbatteryclinic.com most likley some answers there. GREAT SITE!

FYI I'm very inexperenced so take this with that in mind, buy I think my research says cool dry place if possible. But *&6% Garage will do but dont put directly on concretes or moist area.

I use the battery tender JR. I bought from arizonia motor sports for only 20.00 most others sell for 40 to 50 dollars. It is computeized ? and Floats the charge to protect battery and you can keep in pluged in all the time and still be safe.

I dought many can tell how much you discharg tghe battery but if you use a voltmeter 12 volt is dead and 13 volt is full charge. You willl have to give amp hr of battery and charger for others to tell ya how long to charge.

I guess say if 12.5 volt reading on battery of 7 amp hr battery with . 250 amphr battery charger will take say 14 hr's on charger if i'm not mistaken. 7-50percent=3.5 .250 x 14 =3.5

Be sure to read other comments as I am new also and might not even should be giving advise :-)

Good luck, Dennis

Dennis, what you say about placing on concrete no longer is applicable. Back in the days when battery cases were made of different material, there was some basis for that statement but; it is no longer true. The materials now used can't tell the difference between concrete and any other material. It is important to keep the case clean as dirt will form a conductive path that will accelerate self discharge. A periodic cleaning of the case with clean water and maybe a bit of soda will keep the leakage to a minimum. Just do not get any soda water into the vents if it is not a sealed battery.

The old concrete worries are essentially gone. However, storing lead acid batteries on the floor should still be avoided. The environmental issues are important; during times of flooding non-sealed lead acid batteries cause a lot of grief. Be sure to keep them high and dry.
