Looking for opinions for a motor for a new Carden 35% Edge. Either DA 100 or 3W QS 106. I have ruled out my BME 110 due to the fact that the Cardens tend to come out tail heavy with even a DA or 3W, so going DA or 3W. I would like to hear everyones opinion based on performance of the motor, and not customer service. (I mention CS because I have had great luck from both DA and 3W in this department)

This is almost like comparing apples to apples both engines will give you incredible perfomance. I've run both on Composite Arf 33% Extras and there is no difference in performance.

I would agree both are great engines but the QS definitely has more power it turns a 2" bigger prop same RPMs or slightly more. The non QS seems to be about the same as the DA. Mark

Go DA and you wont be sorry! I can tell you this through one summer of pain and poor customer service with NEW engines. I switched to DA and will NEVER go back!

Think I am putting in an order for a QS 106, unless I can see an impressive video of a carden 35% edge with a DA 100.

I have a 35% carden edge with a DA 100. If you want to see a short video of it. Check out our clubs web page. Westendwings.com
look under club videos. I think it's the second video down. It's a short video but it will give you an idea of the power to weight ratio pulling out of a hover. I got johnson mufflers and a 28x10 mejzlik turning at 6600.

First of all the airplane was designed around a DA. If you look at the front of the DA the right jug is forward. It is just the opposite on the 3W, this might be a consideration when mounting the cowl. Carden dosen't say to use duck work if using the DA. I would however ducked the 3W. I love the DA. And have one in my 35% Carden Edge. I also would recommend a prince Prop 27/10. We will soon be testing a 26/11 Prince.
