Is there any magic to getting the midrange stumble out of Super Tigre engines? I'm runngin 5% nitro with about 18% oil in a G90 and it's awful at about mid throttle. The idle and hi speed are OK, but just where you need a nice clean run, it bogs until it cleans out. Makes it tough to freestyle and 3D. What are some of the magic formulas you guys are using_bob

Have six of them. I might want a bit more information, but here goes.
Here are my ideas.
Use 15% nitro. I really don't care what others say on this, they idle better and I cannot say how much fuel like this I have used. Use fox idle bar plugs. What muffler are you using? If stock maybe Ok. If some type of twin outlet after market, you may have fuel draw problems. Block one outlet.
Is it inverte? Stumble is bad like this. If so, add on board glow to 25% throttle.
If midrange stumble, Super Tigre suggests to rotate the spray bar a bit. Never had to do this.
Warning, if you losen those small retaining screws, make sure you locktite them back.
Where is fuel tank...maybe too high? What prop? Many people suggest large props and lower speeds due to "It is a low rpm engine". I have run them with tuned pipes for gallons of fuel at 13,000- 14,000 rpm. Don't believe it. Look at the spray bar. The early ones had flats ground on the sides, or in other words, it is not round near the spray outlet. This is the desirable one for more power.
While many people bad mouth the ST carbs, I use them on most of my applications. Want more power, and a bit better transition, if not happy with above, go to ASP 108 carb. Is a clone of OS 7D and much less expensive. Good for 4-500 rpm due to larger size.
Hope this helps. I am currently using these on three twins, so reliability is VERY important.
Good Luck,
Twinman

Another way to lean the midrange a bit is to lean the idle mixture a hair, and then open the throttle at idle a hair. Sacrifice some idle RPM for better midrange handling. Any idle below 2,500 is considered good. Many people try to idle too slowly, and while you can get a very low, reliable idle, the midrange and acceleration can be a bit of a problem. Remember, the engine only has to idle slowly enough to allow you to land the model at a reasonable speed. If it lands too fast, go with a different propeller.

Some more stuff for what its worth.

Midrange problems change the carb needle valve to the old style needle that uses the locking collett. Buy a Higgley replacement needle valve and use this. the Higgley needle is finer threads and gives better tune.
And the midrange adjustment get very very sensitive when you get near the perfect point move the midrange needle very slight ( about 1/32 at a time)

OR

Replace the carb altogether with the OS 7D and tune like an OS.

I agree use 10-15% fuel all synthetic is good or castor blend either one is good.

My .90 didnt like Fox plugs for some strange reason ( I use them on everyting else ??) mine liked K&B 1L Long RC plugs or surprisingly the OS#8 plug.

And

I did not use the stock muffler I used a brand called Semco....these were what they called flow thru mufflers.
Ran great but are not good now too loud and they dont make them anymore.
I'd go with a good slim line now.

I also got fed up trying to get a descent midrange with the stock carb. Save yourself alot of headaches and buy a Perry 4501 carb. Mine runs PERFECT on 5% nitro and 20% oil. The venturi is the same as the OS 7D carb (larger than the stock ST) which allowed me to pick up 600 more RPM. Sell the junk ST carb on ebay and recoup some of your cost.

Please send me all those replaced ST carbs, they work perfectly on other brands that may not have such a great carb. The SuperTigre carbs are infinitely tuneable and work well.

bought a model from a guy with super tigre 2300 , 1.41 cu. ran great for a while, for no reason engine quit and destroyed the plane...now under restoration..ugh...anyway, was told by in the know people to replace carb RIGHT AWAY with OS 7D....have not run yet; the muffler has two pipes for outlet, should I block one of them as twinman says? whats the deal on that? any and all info is helpful.

Really cannot help much with the ST 2300 as do not have experience. It does have the larger carb and OS 7d would be smaller. The idea of blocking the second outlet is to increase the back pressure to the tank.
Sorry for the loss.......been there done that.
Good Luck,

I have never had any problems what so ever with Super Tigre carbs... They are just fine... OK you can get more power out of an engine by putting on a bigger aftermarket carb, but at the expense of throttling characteristics...

I just bought a lot of ST's in the past because I particularly liked how they throttle and how reliable they are... I really can't see where all the problems are coming from...

My S90K is just about the best running, most reliable engine I have ever had... I wish they still made those...

I really have to agree with you on that one. I did change for more power, but that was the only reason.
Twinman
PS Have 11 of them and 8 on twins!!!! Now that is a fussy spot if any.
