Yes there are many things you need to know about nitro but the main thing why I am repling is that I have one I am trying to sell!! It has less than a gallon through it.

Yeah I know there's a lot of stuff I need to know, but I meant specifically about this car. I've read up about niro engines and all that stuff. I want to buy a brand new one and put it together myself. Sorry.

    Thats cool
But anyway this is a top of the line car and is also one of the most popular.
HPI does a great job with their instruction manual and supply all the needed information for you to become very familiur with nitro without destroying your investment.
But everything else is pretty much straight forward and don't drive it too fast in the start
let all parts wear together evenly and slowly

    Run name brand 20% fuel

But all it really takes to undestand these things is to get first hand experience
You can't learn that much from JUST reading these things

I just put an SS kit together not too long ago. I'm very pleased with everything. I only had one problem. That was with a plastic drive hub on the 2-speed trans. HPI sent the replacement part out right away at no cost. The only things I would recommed getting are the fiber brake disc. The stock plastic one will work, but for $10-$15 you won't need to replace it right away. Also, the pipe that comes with it "works" but it being a 2piece composite you might be inviting trouble. I ran into a problem with a T-maxx and couldn't find the leak. It ended up being the pipe and once it was replaced. Problem solved. The car/motor is decent. It's not gonna brake any speed records, but it's easy to work with and pretty reliable. I don't have any plans to replace the power plant until needed b/c it suits me just fine for kicking around. Good Luck. Also, I think it's good you want a kit. You learn ALOT about the car when it comes time to fix it. The biggest headache I've come across is throttle brake linkage. To me they aren't that bad, but for the first time you might shake your head. Once you figure it out you'll see it's no problem at all. Plus there's always the LHS you can get info off of.

I'm thinking about getting an rs4 SS kit as well. I was just curious about how these engines are for tuning, and how they preform. I assume they aren't as picky about tuning and don't overheat all the time like the trx2.5 in my t-maxx...

its a nice engine, from what I've heard nothings worse that your trx 2.5 lol.I think its very easy to tune as long as you understand what the needles do and read the manual...and don't put a CVEC pipe on it,haha. That gave me some tuning problems.I have one and I love it,loved building it too.

i was going to get an rs4 ss kit also till i did much research on them and other shaft driven kits and found that the NTC3 kit was much more race ready then the SS. i went to tracks and spoke with owners of both cars and every SS owner told me that they had to spend much more to make the car anywhere near as competitive as the NTC3.

the NTC3 seem much less cluttered and easier to work on from what i can tell as well.

i did however find out as far as a good basher the SS supposedly rocks if that is all you plan to do with it.

my friend went with a TC3 at the same time I got my SS...we built them in the same week and fired em up a day apart,He got the team version and its a very nice car...he put an OS .15 in it (not sure which one)which required him to modify the engine mount and throttle linkage. To do those mods he actually drilled the engine and TIG welded the throttle linkage. My point here being...if its your first car,the SS might be easier.Everything you need is in the box and you don't need to read for 5 hours to find out if the engine you want will fit.

The TC3 came with more aluminum parts and metal brake which is very good by the way,but the plastic seemed like a poorer quality on the TC3.We'll open both of em up in a long straight and hes barely faster than me on the same fuel and plug..if I get out of a turn a little faster than him,he has to go all out to catch up.The one thing I've heard him say a few times is he wishes his car handled like mine.I put $80 into the shocks to get it like that but the main difference is the stock ride height. If you're gonna be on groomed tracks and ultra smooth parking lots(they're all smooth till you run there once) the TC3 would probably be better cause its so low.I love the low look but it just wouldn't work for where I run my car which is old grocery store parking lots and stuff, its too low and you can't raise it enough.

So....SS for bashing,TC3 for racing, because of the suspension.

I just got done putting mine together w/ the woven graphite upper deck, and 43/39 spurs. I really like the way everything went together, all the parts fit perfectly, and all the screw holes lined right up...Looks like it's gonna be a nice car.

The engines are decent. They aren't gonna set any speed records, but I think it's a decent reliable 1HP engine. They are fairly easy to tune b/c of the 1 needle setup. There is a minor performance loss with the 1 needle set-up, but for bashing....it's great. The problem with your 2.5 is most likely settings. I'm not saying you don't know what you are doing, but I've learned that instructions don't always tell you everything. I'm very impressed with HPI products and have always had good luck with them. My original RS4(bought over 4 years ago) is still running the original power plant---nitrostar .12-- good little motor. Oh yeah, I got the THS header and pipe and it's definately worth the $50 to upgrade. That is the only thing I would've thought HPI would've included in the SS kit and didn't.
