I'm thinking about ordering an Ofna Hyper 7 PBS RTR. If I do, I'll be seriously contemplating upgrading the radio system that comes with the kit. I went to Ultimate Hobbies today and was looking at the JR XS3, which comes with the synthesized receiver. According to the specs at Horizon Hobby, the servos appear to be good enough for this buggy. I think the speed is there and the torque is just enough.

Anyway, which frequency band is the one to get? I'm also hoping to hear your thoughts on the radio.

Before getting the Hyper 7, it would be in my best interest to sell my current setup. I'd rather my wife not see two RC Cars on the workbench at a time. Does anybody have an idea how much I could get for all of this? I purchased the truck 4 to 5 years ago and have run less than a half gallon of gas through it. It is in immaculate condition.

Losi GTX Pro
OS .12 CV w/ blue O'Donnell head
Futaba Magnum Sport PS-P2B radio
"extra nice" Futaba S148 servos
handheld bump starter
two extra wheels with brand new rear tires

I had it boxed up for the last 3 or so years and broke it out last Sunday. Running it around the street sure made me want to start "playing" again.

Thanks.

Roy

if u r in the USA, then its a no-brainer to go with 75mhz, so many more channels. 27mhz is really reserved for the most basic RTR's and europe. got with 75, no question about it.

Don't forget there are only six frequencies on the 27 band, so if you are into organized racing and more than six cars are run in a heat, you may have to change to a 75 band radio to be able to run in your main, so go with 75 right off the bat. JIM

Some of the FM radios also have AM conversion modules so you can use the same FM radio with mini-z's (AM only), such as the Futaba T3PK. FYI, I have both the JR XS3 "FM version" and the Futaba T3PK.

OK, here are a couple of dumb questions. What is a mini-z? Does the Futaba T3PK come with a synthesized receiver. I really like the idea of having all 30 75 MHZ channels readily available.

Thanks.

All the bells and whistles.

According to the Futaba site, there is also a Synthesized FM transmitter module for the 3PK.

i strongly suggest that you get something OTHER than JR. i had problems with my XR2i and they were really anything but helpful. however i have had a futaba magnum for 5 years (at least) and NEVER had a problem with it. i had my xr2i for 1 day and it was cousing problems. as for the futaba having a synthesized receiver i dont know.

however if you do decide to get the JR then i would get the novak synthesixed reciever because i think (not sure) that the JR reciever is pretty big

JRs sen. receiver is smaller than novaks. And if I was buying I would buy an FM JR 27 Mhz. For the smae reasons as listed here. Everybody runs out and buys 75Mhz. 27 Mhz is hardly used for racing in the USA. But 27 MHz is less prone to clitching. Also if you really need more than 6 channels you can always hit Ebay and buy some half crystals. Another reason to not buy a synthesised radio.

This is a dumb question, but what do you mean about half crystals? You mean half a set, receiver only?

Thanks
