From what I can gather, the SPA3D as per the plans is about the best you're going to get. A 48" was tried and had less than favorable results. I don't know if the SPA3DT will go any bigger, but if it can, I'll be one of the ones who goes bigger .

No point the 36"x36" with a .46-.61 will do awesome

I am working on a 48" SPA3D to be powered by my MDS .68. At this point I am working on a method to stiffen the wing sufficiently and I think I have got it ironed out. I need to order some carbon fibre rods and some nic-nacs and I will start construction. The main problem I see with this will be transport.

I'll start a thread as soon as construction gets underway

Thanks For the reply guys.

I have a friend who is considering trying to build a larger size 3D simply becuase he has a few .60 engines lying around. Plus, a larger wing span would be a bit easier to see. We've been tossing ideas around and if we come up with anything workable, we will be sure to share.

I never thought of putting a .60 on the 36'' w/s spa3d. A good .46 on the front of it is all it really needs.

My .68 was on a 36" SPA3D and it was fun, but I agree with you it was'nt needed. The 60 size engines usually weight 4-6 oz more than a .46 and that's alot to stick on the front of a 5lb plane. By going to a 48" span, we'll increase the wing area by almost 400" and if we can keep the weight down to around 5lb this should be a really fun plane.
