ARF or RTF

I have been researching the Cessna 182 Skylane kit from Hangar 9 and am about ready to begin buying the parts. I have decided to go with the Zenoah G38 with on board starter and would appreciate any pictures of this particular engine installation. I have also decided to install the nose gear assembly from Sierra Precision.

Thanks for all of the tips and tricks you have posted so far, I sure look forward to building and flying this aircraft!

Randy

I have an ASP 1.60 twin mounted with the Sierra gear. Here is a pic after the tire fell off and I had some breakage be sure and check those axel bolts.

Thanks Shok. I like the way that twin looks ! I know that I'll need to remove some of the lower cowling to get the Zenoah in. Zerodown has a great looking Cessna with a Zenoah G38 but I do not know if he has the Sierra nose strut. Other than the axel bolts have you had to do anything to the Sierra strut for maintenance? How was the installation? Thanks for the info.

Randy

It's just a simple bolt on installation. It's a work of art.

Oh wait, I did have to move the fuel take up some because the top of the strut protrudes into the engine box, but that's it.

Pic of G38 with onboard starter I did for my friend. Firewall had to be cut back but it is not hard to do. Just cut back to measured setback line - peel old side walls off fire wall and re-installed original firewall. I added to thickness and pinned with dowels for added strength. I assume you got my email for Gains who made the starter unit??

Thanks for the pictures. I believe this will be a great build. I didn't get the e-mail about the starter. Can you resend?
Thanks,
Randy

I flew my new SKYLANE 182 today, 11/30/2003, for it's first flight. It flys awesome with the Saito 180 with a 16/10. It weights 17.33# with 8 oz. lead in nose area. I landed with no flaps 1st landing, then 20%, then 40%. They were all great. I use a JR 10x radio and mix down elevator per the 20% and the 40% individually. The SKYLANE 182 is a great aircraft model and Mike McConville and crew have outdone themselves on this one. By the way, I flew it on 1/2 throttle most of the time.

It's a great plane huh? I love mine, but it's getting to be a bit too big to have around and bring to the field. I went ahead and put it up for sale if anyone is looking for a completely ready to fly skylane let me know.
