Hi all,

I returned my GSP Katana 72" a while ago due to the wing issue and i'm now undecided if I should pick up another one (with the wing issues fixed) when the new shipment arrives or be a frugally minded[:D] and get a Seagull 540 edge 60 or GSP Giles 202 67" instead.

I've done alot of research on how all 3 need various mods, engines, servos, etc so thats not a problem but can anyone comment on how they compare in flight performance 3D, IMAC, etc and first hand comments would be excellent.

The Katana will get an OS 160FX, while the other 2 will recieve a Magnum 91 2 stroke , the servos are the same for all 3.

The Katana's extra costs will add up with fuel, props, engine, etc and i'm not sure if these extra costs can be justified when the other 2 are supposedly quite good.

I think peope are making too big a deal out of this wing webbing issue. I haven't started building my Katana yet, but I have checked and found my plane has the problem. It's no big deal to fix, I'm sure I can fix it in around an hour. Every ARF I have built has more significant problems.

If the new shipments of the plane have the wing fixed, that's great, however I don't think anyone should avoid the plane even if they have one with the problem.

A mate had a Moki 2.1 mounted inverted in his Katana which I never got a chance to see in the air. He never got the Moki to run right whilst it was inverted, so he's moved on to the big 1.20 size seagull edge 540.

The Katana's weight is 11-11.5 lbs with 3.7 lbs pounds of thrust from the OS160FX which seems impressive, compare to the other 2 (7.5-8lbs and 2.6 lbs thrust from the magXL91). The Katana is probably in another class[:)], the extra weight and size over the other 2 will probably make the Katana track and perform manuovers with much more authority.

I'm gonna checkout the GSP(CMPRO) Giles 202 in a couple of hrs or so. It should be interesting to see how it performs.
The pilot is an older guy so i'm hoping he still has a bit of fire left in him and puts the plane through it's paces, not just circuit work[:D].

I think you have your thrust numbers wrong...perhaps you mean 3.7hp and 2.6hp?

I guess an 11lb plane with an engine that produces 3.7lbs og thrust ain't gonna do much flying

From personal experience....stay away from the GSP G-202. Pink and white with blue. Mine for starters was only a 60 in. span. I saw another and it was 60 in. span as well. The covering on mine started to exit the plane after just a few flights. Lots of work getting things to fit correctly. This was three years ago. I hope they have changed. I talked with the guys from GSP in feb. at DeLand and were supposed to have a 2M Pattern ARF out already. I wonder if that is still in the works? I would look very carefully before buying their product.

Yeah,

I was speaking to the guy at the field today about his Giles 202.

The wing tube was a little loose fitting when he assembled it, I can't remember how he fix it, but that's a relatively easy fix.

On a brighter note, he only bought this one 3 months ago. The plane looked outstanding the quality of the covering must have improved and not as clear as the Katana's white covering. The cowl was a slightly different shade of purple to the fuse.

The plane flew well, nice pattern type aeros. Easy landing into the wind. It handled the wind very well. The control surfaces aren't that big so I can't see this plane flying a wall or torque rolling as well as a kantana

A friend has the g-202 with a magnum 91 and it flys like **** if you ask me...its a floater but it cant even do a good loop with out dieing at the top.
