I've picked up an unfinished Aeropro Citabria, wingspan 104", length 67 3/4", weight 16-18 lbs, engine .9-2 cu.in. and was looking for a little help.

Is this model still being made (couldn't find any info on Aeropro Citabria anywhere)?
Plans are incomplete, pages are missing, anybody have a set or know where to find some?
Are 60/80 oz (4.8v/6.0v) torque servos ok or do I need higher torque in the tail?
I have a Super tigre 3500 (that has also never been used) that I was planning to use as my power source, or should I go small gas?
and finally has anybody flown one, good / bad?

Thanks for any help that you may be able to provide.

Steve,

Sounds like a nifty project. I have no background with this specific kit, but I do have a slightly smaller Decathlon ... somewhat related. The servos you suggest will be at the low limit and may work out depending on your flight style. The weight you quote is very low for the size (all up, or bare without engine and other gear?). If you plan on control throws that are scale (not radical), and two independent elevator servos it might be good enough.

The engine choice is good for the weight and fits for a very light plane of this size. You may have a balance issue (tail heavy), which would push you toward a gasser with magneto (trouble free, reliable, CHEAP fuel). Don't get too big, or your servo choice will need to be reevaluated.

I would love to have a shot at the same project. Have fun!

Thanks Bedford,

The weight mentioned is off the first page of intructions (that's the only way I knew it was an Aeropro) so I'm going to assume that's without engine and electronics but with everything else.

I am going to try and stick to scale control throws with this one.
Since I'm missing the part about servos I guess it's up to my preference on location and number, so depending on final weight and balance I would like to use two servos on the elevators and one on rudder and hopefully locate them in the tail section.
Like you said going to need to check that balance with the current engine first.
thanks again

Steve,
sounds like a nice subject. Why don't you scan in the cover and/or some other info on the Aeropro Kit so we can search a little more?

I am in the Hostettler 33% Decathlon thread, it has turned out into a generic Decathlon/Citabria thread, you can find useful information there.

If you need any help with your Citabria pls ask. I would suggest you to go along with a G-23 or even a G-38 gas burner.

AeroPro has been out of business for years. I owned their Laser 200. A buddy at the field had a G38 on his Citabria and it was about right. These are big, heavy (old techonogly with lots of wood and durable) flyers-- Will not do anything close to 3D-- but then the real ones would not either. I had the Pilot, which is about the same size. Servos should be in the 80oz range--my humble opinion-- to be safe. As I remember this has a flat bottom airfoil so you will get plenty of lift.

I have decided to dropped the Super Tigre S3000 and go with a gas engine. The LHS has an used US Engine 35cc that's at a good price or should I go with something different (bigger/smaller). I am still new to gas engines so I am unfamiliar with all the different brands and sizes.

thanks for the help

I had a quadra 35 in my 96" super decathlon and the plane flew very scale, opted to replace with a zdz 40 with more power and ability to swing a much larger prop. Marcus, how's the progress coming on your kits? please keep in touch . donnie dbryans@cfl.rr.com

Donnie,
like I posted in the 33% thread, I put it on hold for a while, will go back to work during/after xmas. I haven't yet sent the CD but will do so in the next days.

Steve, the US 35cc is actually the same engine as the old Quadras 35cc, US engines bought the rights to produce and market the Quad 35 and 42, and Klaus Nowak of Quadra Aerrow produces the big bang Quads.
So go for it, it's a reliable engine.
