I believe the original plans came from Wendell Hostetler and several different companies/people made composite kits/parts for them.

Check out:

Several companies make the lancair as described above. One not mentioned is KT Aviation. See http://www.usrainfo.org/manufac.htm for info and a list of giant scale manufacturers. If you want to build from wood, the only plans that I know of are Hostetler's.

I know I'm a bit late coming into this thread as it's almost a year old but, I was wondering about Red Newton's Super Corsair, piloted by Scott Manning, and Rahm Racing's #22 super corsair. Piloted by Kent McKenna. I would like a little more info on these airplanes like, are they built from a set of plans , or a kit? And, where does one find engines large enough (300cc's), yet under 14 lbs, to fly these things at 240mph?

I have heard about the Air Races at Reedley before but have not been able to gather much info onit until I found this web page.

Try www.madera-race.com and www.usrainfo.org for race leagues and manufacturers. The super corsairs are made by Horndog aircraft, run by Dave Bridi. Engines used are Herbrandsons, originally designed for drones and lightened for racing. Articles are also in RCM Sept 2001, April 2002 and April 2003.
