Hey guys, I need a way to make money and I figure that I could put my local high school's team logo on the envelope of a R/C airship and fly it at half time. Thus I need a good quality airship that prefferably has a payload bay so that I can also drop stuff. Do you know where I can find one? I have already checked Tower, but I think that they only carry the cheap"kiddie" stuff. I have also checked Plantraco and it seems as if they have the best that I have seen yet. Also, is there any possibility that I could make one? Thanx!

Fly Boy,

Try this web site, it should give you a couple of hours of surfing pleasure....!

http://www.hotairship.com/index.html

Packaged blimps are not cheap, and also they can not be "thrown" together quickly, for the purpose that you describe.....

The owner of the LHS here flies a killer-whale shaped blimp between periods of the hockey game. It's quite cool. You could have a look at his store's website.. there's a page on it with info about it...norburnrc.com

If you want to make money, stay away from the blimp idea. Ours is 12 feet long, takes a fortune in helium to fill, and you have to keep it light, so you can't take much more than business cards up to drop. We drop tiny stuffed bears once in a while, but we put small helium filled balloons on them to hold them up, and hook a ribbon to them and drop the tow cord and they are filled so they just sink. The balloon won't take much weight, and if you put a bunch on and drop it, your blimp goes to the ceiling.

It is a ton of fun and we fly pre game and half time in a huge arena. It takes a crew of at least two and most times three to fly it, fill it, load it, get it read and all that, and then you have to store it, full hopefully so you don't have to re-fill it every time. That gets expensive.

I think Pony makes ours, the envelopes are just over $1000 and we use a new one about every year because in order to make the material light enough to lift, it has to be thin, and it gets a lot of holes in it. Just touching a light or ceiling tile will put pin holes in it.

Have a blast. It is fun, but the cost is way higher than they will pay for it.

Hello, I not sure what 12ft blimp he is flying but the 5.5ft,8ft. And the two 12ft. blimps that I fly cost me nothing to keep up. My blimps are over 2years+ old and I'm still flying the same envelopes. My helium cost is 0$ the People I fly for take care of the helium cost. http://www.southernBalloonworks.com Some of the best R/c Blimp flying today. I have two!

Wil, your enelopes for yours look to be quite a bit cheaper, but I don't know what yours cost to paint. When ours are done and painted, they are right at about a grand. The club lets too many new guys fly it and they seem to break it too much. We fix pin holes, but tears suck. One guy hit a hallogen light. That was fun.

Our gondola is a little different. I like ours better, but your motor system is nicer. They are a blast to fly at the games. The company that sponcers ours also pays for everything. Makes it so much nicer. They basically make donations to the club to keep it in the air with pilots and pit crews. Doesn't pay a lot but is fun stik time in the winter.

Flyboy,
Wanna get more attention at UofM games, paint a big Bobcat on the side then see how many holes get put in it.

Thats pretty good Scott. Probably get a scud missle shot at it. It is fun to get down on the floor with it and mess with the mascots at the games. Landed it on a cheerleader warming up one day. We all laughed, unfortunately, she didn't. Woooppss.

We hang cats on the gondola for the cat griz game. Usually by the neck though..

Too much fun.

I,ve found some pretty good prices at a couple places and we are getting ready to place an order with a place that has told me the more we order the better the price so if your interested drop me an email and we will talk. fly101@msn.com -- put "Blimps" on the subject line!!
