I agree with what you said, and since most of the folks posting here say the Zero needs nose weight, I want my nose weight to generate power.

World Models lists the weight at 17 pounds now. The OS 160 2 cycle is plenty powerful, but lots of nose weight is neeeded to balance. Some are taking 2 pounds of lead.

Or so they say.

Time will tell.....

I would like for all weight upfront to generate power also, however since it was designed for the 160, the designers and builders should have made sure that it would be close to balance with it. The engine suggested was bought.
You say "some say" the weight is required. I can assure you if one uses the 160, the weight is required.

Yep, "some say" the weight is required. Some others say nothing about added nose weight whan using an OS 160.

Those particular "some others" are the ones that did the review of this plane in March MAN.

petit, can't wait for a REAL review of this plane. I was looking for a missing pagein MAN.This is a exellent flying plane but it has some minor design drawbacks. Hope they learn from the feedback before they release the 80"Spitfire. Still waiting for my Spring Air retracts I ordered a month ago for the Zero. Paul

Missing page? They missed the boat.
Robarts 630 with long struts work great in the Zero. You are correct, this plane flies great and lands even better. Really surprised me the way it lands. No tendancy to snap or drop.
What a great overall plane it could have been with some minor R&D changes. What a shame.

Oh, I forgot to say, I understand this plane will balance perfectly with a G45 or Fuji 50. Paul

Update: My WM 80" Zero balances without any additional weight at the recommended point with a G-38 on the nose.

(That's basically a 5 pound engine, not a 41 ounce Moki or a 35 ounce OS 160.)

New pneumatic retracts aren't here yet, but they shouldn't change things much. Battery position will fix possible balance issue.

Big surprise! Total weight is 15 pounds 5 ounces so far.

But there's a lot of little details yet to be worked out. Maybe another half a pound.

Funny that I have found several errors and problems, and "the other guys" didn't....

One minute you guys are complaining that we, as reviewers, aren't finding things wrong with anything out there.

The next minute, you say I'm "picky, picky, picky".

Make up your minds...

LOL

I think a model review should be picky, picky, picky. If a review is not picky, than people won't know if the model is great or a piece of junk. This is just my .02.

Hey, Mr. Petit, is that g38 balance with the stock elevator linkage or with 2 elevator servos in the tail? By the way, finally got my Spring air 403's and 1/2 " dia. offset Robostruts. Will post results soon! Paul

It's assembled as per the manual, with a single HD elevator servo driving the pull-pull arrangement to the "walking beam" arrangement in the tail. Hard to assemble (I have short arms) but excellent control.

My Century Jet retracts arrived yesterday. After a little fitting, they seem to be just fine.

I wish I had done it that way as I like a little redundancy, but it probrably cost me a pound additional noseweight even with a BME2.7. It doesn't bother the wing load but the verticle suffers somewhat. Retract mounts are fitted and installed. Starting on filling in around wheelwell and strut area. Paul

did you get your Robarts 630 with long struts as a pair or did you get them separate? I Can only find the 630 with the straight struts. I may just give robart a call to find out too

I got them as a pair at the same time. Measured the length of the strut I needed and told Robat and they did the rest. Got the whole system at the same time.
