Anurag,
The only advice that I can give you is do not go under 90 oz on aileron, flaps, elevator or rudder. I am using 4131 JR with my zero with a Moki 1.80 and it flys fine with no flutter and no 3D stuff. This is not an aerobatic airplane. Over my many years of modeling, I have decided that I have too much money in these airplanes to scrimp on a few dollars of servo torque. Do it right the first time and test fly it with an experience pilot there. As a pilot you might not see the flutter because you are speeding down the runway, but your spotter behind you can see it and hear it most of the time, if they know what they are doing. A 148 on the throttle is fine.

good luck have fun,
Jerry

I just picked up on of these birds - my LHS had a great sale.

I had some questions.

1. I am planning on using a ZDZ 50NG or a DA 50. Any thoughts re these choices?
2. I would like to use a smoke system - what muffler should I use?
3. Do I need to mod the cowl much?
4. I like the spring down retracts - I know that the 631RS 85 degree Robarts are not spring down. What is the model number of the spring down robart retract that I can use instead of the 631?

Thanks guys.

The 50's would be a bit much for this bird. You don't need unlimited vertical. Mine flies real scale like on a G26. I'd go for a nice 2.4 (40cc) if you want a bit more power than the 26. As far as a muffler goes for smoke, it depends on how you're mounting the engine. Mine's inverted with the G26. I use an Abell muffler and only had to cut out a small hole for the exhaust pipe. Right now I'm using the retracts that came with the '47 and have had no problems.

I have a zdz 40 in mine and it's hauls butt... 20x10 zinger prop..
the stock retracts are junk.. but you know that
I went with robarts and custom made struts
Some may tell you differnet but the stock landing gear blocks are junk too...
mine delaminated... so I cut the bottom of the wing open... and ground them out with the dremel
put in some nice hardwood blocks.. I'd do that right off the bat so you don't tear up the plane with a good landing
but it really flys nice .. great plane

I have to apologize... I've been following this thread and the one on the H9 P-47. My answers were for the H9-P47. I also have the World Zero and have a Fox 2.4 (Abell muffler.)in mine and with the 20x10 prop makes a great combination. You will have some cutting to do on the cowl, but with the engine inverted it's not that bad. Yes, the factory retracts are horrible and I replaced mine with Century's model... They seem to work fine after you replace the stock gear mounts.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Ron101, what hardware (such as standoffs) did you use to attach the ZDZ 40 to the firewall? Where did you get it from?

I didn't install the engine... I bought it from a club member.. but it's a slick set up
Looks like custom made standoffs.. If you ask about custom standoffs in this fourm..
someone will chime in.. I've seen web sites with nice standoffs... but could find a link...
maybe try a search...
I think you would be very happy with the zdz 40... but I don't think a da 50 would hurt
it would hit warp speed... mine is very fast with a 40
anyway good luck
Ronnie

Hi Richard L,

Thanks again for those URLs.

Perhaps I can pick your brain a bit:

1. Would the offset Robo struts (671L&R) work better in the GS Zero or the straight struts?

2. Do you know exactly which standoffs (what length) to you use with the DA50?

3. What, if any, are the advantages of a pneumatic retract system in comparison to a mechanical servo driven one? Apparently the actual retract mechanism already in this ARF may not be too bad - the struts are poorly designed and dance around!

Thanks in advance!

I suppose it's easier to mount gear doors to straight struts. However, the full size has offset struts. I don't have a DA50, so I don't know which standoffs to use. Just measure the distance from the drive washer to the back of the engine and compare that value against the value called for in the instruction manual. Advantage of pneumatic retracts: able to raise heavy scale struts and wheels at a slow rate without draining the battery pack since air does the work.

Guys, has anyone installed a Fuji Imvac BT 50 EIS in this plane? I had originally planned on a DA 50 but given that I will need an additional 3 lbs of nose weight with a DA 50 and given that the Fuji is about $300 bucks cheaper after taking into account mufflers and what nots, it may be a better deal.

What do you all think?
