I was wondering how far the cowl (and thus the engine) can be moved forward? I have almost an alergic reaction to adding lead!

In particular I am looking for the dimension from the firewall to the front of the cowl opening. Can anyone easily measure that for me please?

Regards,

Eric.

I used the 85 degree gear. The distance from the firewall to the backplate isn't set in stone and can actually be used to balance the plane. I used a Fox 2.4 and have the backplate nearly even with the front of the cowl. There is some fudge room for sliding the cowl back or forward too. I balanced my plane that way so I didn't have to add any nose weight.

The cowl mount isn't pre-set. You can adjust that depending on your motor/balance point. The cowl slides back and forth. Unlike a yak or sukhoi where it butts on the front of the fuselage.

Hey Peter,
I don't know if this will help but,
I have a zdz 40 in mine it weights 2.86 pounds I have a ton of nose weight.. it flys great
The G-38 weights 4.43 pounds and with good batt. placement can balance out.. I flew with one and it seemed almost as fast as mine
The G-45 weightd 4.93 pounds ... I would bet if you did the ignition conversion and maybe used a two RX batt back far you would come out golden... I know it would pull like crazy.. and be a great set up...IMHO
good luck
Ron

Hi! Long distance call from sweden! I know it might be a little bit too late but early on in this thread there was a question about Saito 170 and if it will fly with this engine..Well,this is the second flight with my TWM Zero yesterday and I hope the file isn`t too large (39 MB) but we dont want to compress it too much.. The plane flies nice but i will order an other propp for it,this one is a MA 18X6 and i am going to try with 18X8
to get the RPM down a little bit and perhaps add some speed..
Thanks Kelvin för the exhaust sytems I bought from you,the sound is awsome ,they are THE BEST!!

I picked up a used one of these from a buddy of mine.
You'll see that I repainted her in Imperial colors, added a 1/2 cockpit, guns, and plenty of weathering.
It was a great flying plane but the retracts are not so good.
I had century Jet make some for new LG for me (see crashed image for struts.
Unfortunately I cashed her yesterday...I think I had a battery failure and simply had no controll over the plane.
There's nothing salvagable, but some good memories.
Engine was a Zenoah, G45 and she was a rocket!
