thanks captain and rysium, I think I might give the wheel collar idea a shot, sounds simple and effective

I tried this once, and the solder melted. You have to silver solder the wire, or put the wire into the hole in the wheel collar along with the glow plug post, then clamp it down.

...I would also place a small plastic washer so wheel collar does not short out on plug hex...

Make sure this is the plastic, that doesn't melt. The glow plug gets very hot (over 300F). Silicon fuel tubing will serve well here.

anyone have any experience with the Hangar 9 4 stroke plugs? I found them at hobbytown USA for $7 instead of $9 for the OS F (they didn't have any F's)

if these plugs work out, the engine was running fine without full time glow until it blew so I'll give it another shot since these are only about $2 more than standard plugs

Is most glow fuel tubing silicon? And how much heat will it take before it gives out?

all glow fuel tubing is silicone, and it's good until about 550F if I remember right

thanks for the feedback on the hangar 9 plugs, I'm glad I got 3 of the buggers then , didn't want to get too many if they didn't work with good success.

welp, ran it tonight, too dark for the tach, but am impressed on how it runs, starts right up with the electric starter (being lazy and playing with my new dynatron)

was dark and in front of my townhouse so I didn't tune it for power, just ran it for about 30 seconds, so I also didn't pull the fish scale out for thrust

I'm using a G230 carb since it was the only carb with near a 1/2" venturi, the G230 is the car version, and it needs a new ring, and I'm keeping the engine as a spare for my Traxxas monster buggy so it most likely won't get converted.

just got back from the field, too gusty to feel comfortable maidening the thing (by myself that is), but it ran great, 7500rpm out of the APC 18 8 prop, according to thrust-calc that's like 17.5lbs of thrust which should propel the 11lb plane well

just an ultra stick lite 120, I apparently haven't mentioned that part in this thread yet... I should have no problems maidening it as I've been flying the mini ultra stick for about a year and a half until I plowed it into the ground a couple weeks ago (washed out the tail while heading straight down at 30' altitude 1/2 speed), I've just never flown anything that big and expensive... and haven't reduced the throws down to a reasonable amount for a maiden (little bit of programming left). I have the McCulloch 32cc mounted to the nose, mild port as I mentioned earlier just getting rid of most of the rib in the exhaust port and some of the finger in the intake. The plane balanced out with the servos moved to the back and the 6 cell 4200mah battery (C cells) mounted half behind the stock radio tray and the fuel tank under the wing, 10 pounds 9 ounces dry weight and 17.5 pounds thrust (if the calculator is right, next time I have it running I'll pull the scale out). if I wasn't alone at the field today it would have been in the air.

i have a little question about running the glow engines on gas with the plug powered all the time. would the evolution .46 abc engine do well on this, or should i stick to a ringed engine? i want to put an actuall gas carb on, but am wondering if they are too big for these engines? i am intending on putting it on the stubby that im building, and want the good fuel economy and the advantages of having a pump so i can put the tank right on the cg.
any input is greatly appreciated

93 pages of info.. have not seen that much in long time... Has anyone been runing 4 stroke engines on gas. If so how are they doing?. Have several and have thought about it, but curious if anyone on here is doing it. See mostly 2 stroke engines.
