There must be something wrong with your set up captin, there is no way this can be gas guzzler I havent seen this happen and believe me I have dozens of engines converted to gas glow, check your carb o r???
I don't know what to say maybe you can ask Bob (av8tor) and he can advise better

Well, for example on my Giant Stik with the 48cc twin on Gas/Glow.... It has the factory stock fuel tank, probably meant for a 1.20 glow engine. (Don't know the capacity.) But anyway, it runs that twin on Gas/Glow until I am tired of flying and come in and land. And I don't just "putt around"; I fly aerobatics basically non stop.

Another thought... Do you have a velocity stack on the carb? Most of the reversion, or "stand off" gets blown away by the prop blast if you don't run a velocity stack. I have noticed that when I put a stack on an engine that has been running without one, I have to lean the mixtures quite a bit to get back to an optimum setting, which of course means the engine is using less fuel.

Av8tor told this to me a little bit back. I tryed it and it did if fack work. I have them on all my gas/glows.

What I have found with my gas/glows is that there is about 2 to 300 rpm more. Lower idel and is a lot less lbs. They start exy. It is in some ways a lot less hassel.

But the best part that I like about gas/glow is that it is fun and a lot of people ask a lot of questions about it. lol

Well I got a new glow plug to try...A YS 4cycle plug. Will try that tomorrow and see what happens. I have been mixing 2 oz of Glow fuel to 4 oz gas. It mixes clear as can be right away. Is that a close enough mix? I have a stack on engine from Horizon. Capt,n ADDED Photo

The proven mix is 2 parts of high test gasoline to 1 part of 10% oil, 10% nitro glow fuel, and a four stroke plug. Anything outside those parameters is a new experiment Captain...

Good luck with it, and have fun.

I just ran poulan 42. First with a mixture of 15/18 synthetic. It came out to be 3.3 nitro/4.0 oil. Was getting popping noise midrange. Other wise was good. Idle at 1900 and maxed at 8800 with a Zinger 18x6. Carb is a 13.49 mm WT 285.
Diluted it down to 2.5/3.0. Seemed better, speeds the same.
Then out of courosity I mixed up a batch, 50% methanol/50% high test gas and 32 to 1 klotz with a 20% castor content. Results seemed exactly the same. I also have some klotz with out the castor may try later. But I have a bunch of the castor type to use up.

AV8TOR ....looks like my glow fuel at 18% oil is too much oil...Right? The glow fuel for big Supertigers ...is that what you use....with 10% oil? Thanks Capt,n

Yeah, that's the one Captain. The fuel for large Super Tiger engines.

Well I tried that new Glow plug with not any better running. I took the exhaust off my Mb290 leaf blower and installed it on the Gas/glow engine. Man did that make a difference. It will start sometimes with one flip! I did find out it will start and run in the right direction if the idle is set at about 1550 RPM. If Idle is a little higher...that is when it wants to start and run backwords!! The new Fox plug (with idle bar) seemed to work better than the new YS plug. The Idle was higher with the Fox plug....changing nothing else. Each plug was run only one min apart. Later in the day the air temp fell from 80 to 70 degrees. The engine started a little harder and did idle too slow...so I had to adjust the idle stop 1/2 turn to get same RPM. I will tune more for top end tomorrow. Capt,n

Cap'n

the plugs you are running are good plugs but we have found that os-F seems to work the best. Do not know why but with gas/glow the F plug gets the job done. Give it a try.

Reply I have a OS-F like you say. That is the one that did work good at first..then it seemed to not work at all even though it drew 4 amps on my power panel. I will find that plug and try it again...I now have a exhaust and it helps more than anything else. Open exhaust is a waste of time on this engine. I had to steal one off my leaf blower. The blower runs good without it though...but that is spark ignition! Capt,n
