I would love to find out more about the cap. Hope it comes without all the writing on it. I can screw up the looks of my planes all by myself?

QueedQuag... you must be new... do a Google search on the name Chip Hyde...

You'll find he's been a top contender and champion pattern, 3D and heli pilot for several years.

He won the 2002 Tournament of Champions, Placed 1st in the recent Tucson Shootout 4 minute division, etc.

A truly gifted pilot who has been in this hobby since he was a tike. (Won his first championship when he was like 14? Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

His Dad's been in the hobby a long time too... Hyde mounts have lng been considered the nest anti-vibration mounts in the business for years.

I really want the DV but with the narrow fusalage my BME 50 wont work unless I want the carb hanging outside the cowl. I would have to get and engine with a rear mounted carb, like the DA, ZDZ or 3W 50s.

Exactly what Engine and Muffler is he using in the DV?

BTW "OH MY GOD" is a female expression not suitable for anything with an engine or testosterone, and you have to be flapping your hands in front of your face like your drying your nails when you say it.

YEP!!! I have already received the email........If the email represents the manner in which CHIP is going to be doing business, then it will truly be top notch.....MUCH MUCH better than a couple other big named guys that think they are business people....won't mention any names, but you know the ones that WERE good pilots and now think that there pilot skills make them businessmen

Looks kinda like a biplane version of the Ucando. Course we know Chip loves Biplanes, as we all should.

Screeeetchhhh....... Hit the breaks!!!!!
I've just been over to PL Prod Checking out the F3A version.
Ahhhh, hold on a second here.
One great thing about biplanes is the ability to use real thin aerofoils... Chip F3A DV has 'em so does his TOC Ultimate... but this ARF normal looking, fat-ass aerofoil.
Hold on a second , I need to rethink my position here.
Feed back needed.

OK.. first off.. tell me what the benefit is from using a thin airfoil?

I'll tell you.. The only difference between a thick and thin airfoil is the rate of flow separation. Lift and drag curves are almost identical. There are a couple factors which can change this such as leading edge shape, but mostly that's it. So the F3A and TOC airplanes will snap a bit quicker when you want them to. That's it.

The thicker airfoils on the 3D version of the DV were done for 1 reason.. to eliminate the flying wires required on the F3A version. Chip didn't think the average sport pilot would want to deal with them. In fattening up the airfoils, Chip also got the side benefit of more gentle accelerated stall characteristics. This is a POSITIVE thing for 3D flying.

My girlfriend wants a DP 540T and I want the DV. Maybe we will have to get one of each. Do you think DA will give a discount on 2 engines? How tame will this DV be on low rates? If I order 1 it will probably be the only plane I can build next year. I would like to get my name on the list but I better talk to her about it tonight. Just hope there is still time to get on the first list.

It's a very nice flying mid-sized biplane on low rates. Turn the rates up and it gets wild!

Thats a really impressive photo of Chip Hyde hovering his Double Vision bipe in that little space between himself and his trailer.

That photo can be ammunition for those who wisecrack, whine, and fling weird analogies in and attempt to ridicule the the AMA no-tail-touch rule. Just show that photo as evidence that the public can be adequately protected if we tail touch between a trailer and our body and there is no need for a rule.

GOOD GRIEF!! I'm sounding as ridiculous as they do. Ok, I quit. I won't do it again.

Doug is absolutely right about the AIRFOIL issue. Thin airfoils are more for speed, thick a-foils give better slow speed STALL characteristics. If you are looking for a 3D funfly sort of plane this is what you want. If you want to compete in F3A or some other event where scale appearance is what you are after, then the thinner airfoil is the ticket
