The AMA thing about regulations is definetivly an American thing. It is sad you got such problems with people who cannot think. We in europe are starting to notice the American way of thinking over here to. Every thing should be safe and no one should think for them selves. Heck we are people not sheep (and to the ones who wants to be a sheep do not put your misery down on us who do not want to be like you). If your AMA top men are not up to the task of thinking and investigating before acting, get rid of them.

Loved the video, a bit sad thou. But some of the crashes was plane stupidity so what the heck .

The song is called Sonne and the band is Rammstein. It is from the Mutter CD. I dont know much German but this band rocks.

Thanks a lot!!!

Well, about the video. It's really sad, but we all know that this kind of stuff can happen, no matter if the plane is a cheap SPAD or a super expensive scale jet. They are all subjected to failures and laws of physyics.

It seems that the amount of sadness after a crash is directly proportional to the cost of the model and the time expended on it....

After watching it a few times its hit you. When you crash a 200 pound plane its bad but when you crash something worth more than a car it must be a really bad feeling.

I have come to the conclusion that these were all crashes due to stalls. What a way to waste money. The guy with the F-16 was really BUMMIN! I'll stay with the propeller driven Warbirds for now. I can't see losing that kind of Moo Laaa... The music by Ramstein raelly goes with this video. Why don't you submit it to M-TV?

Man, that flick got boring fast! I've seen one where they showed midair crashes. Now that was bad. No music either, they let you hear the controllers response! lol!

Did you see on that video how that one guy was consoling the other after he crashed, like he had just lost his first born? Or the guys in the video with the matching pants? lol! Too much. Entertaining though.

Dana

Got one more idea,

I have noticed a problem with very top end airplanes, and that is they spend huge amounts of time and money getting the thing built and very little time flying that particular type of plane.

What I mean is that you do not get much stick time on most high end planes and are almost always flying it for what seems like the first time.

That also brings out all the bugs that come with first time flights, and you do not instinctively understand what the engine and airframe is telling you.

I have seen high end planes with seven flights in five years, you can't get a feel for a planes characteristics with that kind of schedule.

I went to Madera and watched the Unlimited Reno Air Races there (model version) and the attrition rate was unbelievable. It was the same thing, they put the effort into the plane, and then didn't want to fly it until the day of the show/race.
It is very important to bring a pristine plane to the show/race and so they put it up until flight time.

This of course isn't a hard and fast rule, there are notable examples of people who don't follow this pattern, but it is prevalent.

I'll bet we were looking at some of them in the video, huge talent, lots of money, great equipment, but in a new and unfamiliar plane.

Sometimes there is more money than talent also, but that is another chapter.

I loved the video, and the music rocked so hard, it made the pilots look a little wimpy. The song seemed to be eat guts and die, and the pilots looked like they needed a hug.

I'm sure I have had that look on my face once or twice, and I'm just glad they didn't play that great head banging music at the same time!!!

Just my two cents!!

Mr Flyer57,
I believe you have a point. A new plane should be flown until the pilot has it figured out, trimmed and tamed. When you no longer have white knuckles, trembling hands, knocking knees, or clutch the transmitter like a stress relief ball you are becoming accustomed to your aircraft. Why have it if it scares the hell out of you to fly it? Remember: (1) Preflight, (2) Start up (3) Taxi out (4) Run Up (5) Back Elevator (6) Into the Burning Blue. The rest is FLYING!

I could not agree more!

I have been to the scale world champs once, and there were guys there that would have had a hard time controlling an aileron trainer... let alone a heavy loaded scale model...

Some people spend all their time in the basement (which is fun too) instead of showing up at the field once in a while (which is where you learn to fly).

Don't get me wrong, a perfect scale model is an awesome accomplishment and I admire those people for their patience and hard work... but it's a damn shame to see it all go to waste because of some stupid mistake! (and some of those jet crashes were definitely pilot errors)

Last but not least... let's not rule out the pressure of competition... some people can be perfect builders and pilots, but they just screw up when there's someone behind them with a stopwatch or a score sheet...
I for one tend to screw up when the clock is ticking behind me...lol... I just can't help myself... My common sense just swithches off somehow and I fly just a little more agressive then I do on training... You can guess how that turns out... My building skills keep on improving tho... hehe...

I just watched the vid again. It's still sad and funny somehow at the same time.
Imagine the amount of hours and money wrecked in a few days there... must run in the tens of thousands on both accounts...

I wouldn't let this video put a wet blanket on any dreams of flying jets. I don't want one for a lot of reasons, but I could see why they would be desirable.
For me the money and the time would take away some of the fun. I just couldn't stay within the safety zone for long and would find out where the thing wouldn't fly.
That would be it for me!! (bring on the death march song, and the long walk of shame!!)
