So for my first attempt at mixing my own fuel ( free turbine oil and free methanol, how could I refuse ) I pull a little together in a syringe just to get the ratios perfect for a test run and within about 6 seconds a whole bunch of white solids form up in the mix! I filter them out with a coffee filter and they are like grease, and go dark when dry. Very odd stuff which I'm sure would gum up the needle. I'm using Mobil Jet 254 (could that be the problem?) and pure methanol. Check out the pic.
Anyone?

Most of the turbine oils are not soluible in Methanol. Sone of the synthetics are, but I can't say which ones are or are not. I believe there is a Royal Purple turbine oil which is.

Actually all turbine oils that I am aware of are synthetic. Most are soluble in methanol (Mobil I and II, BP 2380, etc. ). I did have some question on whether Mobil 254 will work or not, and apparently the answer is not. They put an additive in it to keep the carbon seals in the engines intact and my guess is that 's solidifying and causing my problems. I'm just hoping someone could tell me for sure.

That Mobil 254 could be what's known as the third generation Mobil Jet Oil 2 which isn't soluble in methanol. Normal (or second generation) Jet Oil 2 is completely soluble and works very well. BP2380 is preferred because it doesn't have the brown dye that Mobil uses. I've got some fuel mixed up with Jet Oil 2 that's been sitting around for well over a year and there are no signs of it either settling out or any deposits.

Try BP2197. It has a bluish green tint to it and its all we use on our engine and accessories here at the airline. I havent mixed any yet but it is supposed to be a direct replacement for 2380.

Yeah, I snagged a quart of Jet II and mixed up a gallon of 20% oil, 80% methanol and my engines just purr like little kitties. I'm glad I didn't mix up too much with the Mobil 254. Looks like the LHS has lost my fuel business.
