Im seriously thinking of making a 3DX. The GWS setup would proberbly be fine but brushless would give that extra sparkle! Is there any cheepr alternatives to the Haker BS20 w/ 4:1 geerbox and a controler?

Status: offline 		Ian, you can put a Himax brushless in the GWS gearbox for about 1/2 of what a Hacker will set you back. I don't know if Himax is available ocross the pond, but hey are now down to $49 here (http://www.rc-dymond.com/ they are not listed on the website, you have to call) for the motor. For the best performance you will still need the expensive lipo/charger to keep the power up and weight down IMHO. I am running the Himax 2015 4100 in a GWS D gear, 12X6 (11X4.7 here in about 5 minutes!) 3S Lipo plane and love it. If you get the 2S lipo, you could get a 2015 5400. I don't have any experience with that set up.

These planes are the bomb. Hope you get something working!!

Status: offline 		I don't think so, but I'm surely no authority. These are fairly dangerous batteries, I would make sure before trying.

Status: offline 		I have both the Hacker B20 S 22 and 26 setups on GWS D drives -
Also have the Himax on C drive (4100)-it takes a 10 x6 ---10x4.7 etc--
All the combos are not yet tried --but the Himax is not inferior in any way - at the moment.
For the bargain of the month -- get a Himax 4100 on a D drive - 3 Lipos and a 50 buck charger.

Yes, a Li-ion charge will work on the appropriate cell count Li-poly cells... What specific charger do you have?

I just slammed 3 1200 packs thru my Himax, and I love it even more! I ran the 11X4.7 on the D drive. It was underpropped, but made for great hovering. I still think the 12X6 is a better prop for all around aerobatics/3D, but the 11X4.7 made hovering authority (for a wanker like me!) a lot better.

Dick..I was the whole time thinking how the 11X4.7 and some more prop speed like C gears would be massively awesome...

None at the moment. I have eventually found a place in england which sells Li-pos. The charger itself is 50 pounds and the cells are only 21 for a 3 cell. I also found a 7.2 volt li-on charger for 20 pounds. Will ths charger which is ment for Li-ons charge the kokam (wot ever there name is) Li-pos.

How much is the Himax motor and do you rekon theyed ship it over this side of the pond for a reasonable price?

Is there a specific Li-Po/Brushless ESC????

If youve got any more info on Li-po/brushless setups please tell me

Status: offline 		My Himax 4100 on the APC11x7 and--TWO cell Kokam1500 HD-- is really quite good -
I tried that combo yesterday eve - and the rip snorting performance was not there - but it hovered -recovered - flew vertical snap -with on line recovery - Very pleased ,as that is a workable precision aerobatic setup
I flew both the Hackers on D drives also -in the morning - and they were excellent --except the 3 cell setups faded fast - so I will re think how much MAX amperage I can draw
It seems if I have more Max draw available - I tend to use it .
So I will regear and prop for a max draw --which delivers 17 ozs of thrust -on 3 cells- I was setup for 22+ ounces of thrust.
That setup goes very quickly.
for just hovering, a lower pitch is fine .
My 5400 motor arrives tomorrow -and it goes on a D drive .
I will put the one Hacker back on a B setup --Hacker sells em at 4:1 gear setups. (their gearbox).
Having all four motors on the GWS drive and the little pin disconnects - makes testing in the air - very easy - One screw - three plugins and away we go again.
