Hi,

With the same amount of money, you can get Wing Dragon, it is much better than badius. It can loop, inside loop, inverted flight, take off from the ground and land like real airplane. The transmitter's configuration is also like professional radio with throttle on the left stick, and rudder/elevator on the right. You can view the pics on hobby-lobby.com.

Well I my Accepter in the mail yesterday and and could not wait to get up in the air. I plugged in the batter to get the charging started. And began to but the plane together, it took me lest then 20 min to put together. I spent the rest of the time playing with the wireless I also ordered. After about 2 hours I noticed the battery pack starting to get hot so I unplugged it and decided it was fully charged. Placed the battery pack in the plane and headed out side for my first flight ever. My first throw was not in to the wind as is clearly says in the manual. There was no damage so I picked it back up and tossed it back up in the air. This time it swaggered back and forth a little bit and the leveled out. It was up and I was happy, everything was going fine for about 3 min there was a lot of wind and I was having a really hard time but I did not care I just wanted to fly. Well all of a sudden when I was flying in to the wind, which was blowing about 8 mph. At about 50 feet off the ground, there was a large gust of wind and the plane just nosed up flipped over and dove to the ground. It hit the ground at full speed and broke off the right wing. I picked up the pieces and headed home somewhat disappointed but excited with the flight I did manage to get in. This crash was in now way a fault of the plane it was my fault for flying it in to much wind. I brought it inside and got out the strapping tape. Taped the wing back together and ran some tape down the front and backside of the wings. The prop was also striped out so I replaced that too, all these repairs took less then 15 mins and almost no real skill. So with all the repairs made I decided it would be best to wait tell the next day and see if the wind was any less before I attempted to fly it again. So today after getting home from a 12-hour workday I decided to take it out despite a 6-8 mph wind. After my first 3 attempts to launch ended in crashes I notice the controller was not zeroed properly. So after a few more adjustments I was able to launch it with mo problems. I kept it airborne for about 6-7 mins with out crashing even with the wind this time. I had a blast, the wind was still really affecting the plane but I was able to compensate ok this time. The landing was about a 7 but not bad for a first time. I have attached a pic of my plane with the taped wings, I have had some ok success with the wireless cam on my r/c car but have yet to put it on the plane because the plane is a tad heavy to begin with and I want to practice before I try it with the cam on it. Hope to get about a flight every day or two weather permitting.

Yes this plane is very durable I have crashed it several times and with minor repairs it flys just as good as new. FYI for anyone who has this plane but has not flowen it yet. I would sugjest puting straping or packing tape on the wings before you brake them. The tape will save you wings. If you need more detailed directions on where to place the tape just aske and I will try to help.

i use strapping tape on mine.. Very tough. When i fly the badius i get really high up to where its really tiny in the sky and then just soar. This plane is great for the price. I also have 2 aerobird challengers a slowstick and a outlaw. Also a GWS zero that i havent built yet. I'm hooked on this hobby

I've got mine together and waiting ................ looking for a warm sunny day to do it's maiden. But I'd like to tape mine up so how did you do yours ?

By the way, how much space would be advisable ? I have one park with two football fields end to end, but both lined with 40-50 ft. trees along the sides. Another nearby park has several ball diamonds (tee ball I think) and the home plate area is backed up with thirty foot high fencing. Does either sound feasible or should I head for the country and more space ?

I flew my Badius this morning. I noticed the last few flights that it keeps turning in one direction and i have to give full trim to make it fly semi-straght. I have to note that the wing is damaged and fixed with a bamboo skewer and alot of gws glue and strapping tape. Could this be why? I honestly cant remember if it was this way before i damaged the wing because I've been flying my others planes and only recently fixed this one and started flying it again. I have a new wing on the way.

rszanti,

I used 1 inch wide strapping tape ran one pice along the front edge one alog the back edge. I also ran a piece over the holes that the screws from the connecting plate goes threw. I have heard other people but a strip down the center of the wing. I did not feel this would make much of a difference. I flew my badius last night with the e-bay cheep-o wireless cam and got mixed resolts. Check out this thread for more on the Video.

Gabimaor,

I do not believe that the AB comes with a CD, if it does I too got shorted. The manual is paper and should be in with the rest of the parts. If you did not get the instructions for assembly I can take a photo of it when I get home and post it for you.

hi,

i've got the accipiter badius and it's a cheap and pretty good plane to gain some r/c experience with. i've had about 7 or 8 sessions with it and nosed it into the ground and even the boot of my car plenty of times, with little damage. i found that the wings need 2 inch tape over the joining holes as these break easily if the plane lands on a wingtip. similarly with the tailplane centre. my fuselage has taken a bit of a battering and i have re-enforced the wing joining hole area, nose and tail skids with plenty of epoxy and carbon fibre tape. the receiver is not wrapped in foam and the box has broken, but as it's pretty hidden away, i've just taped it back for now.

spares are pretty cheap - raidentech has a good supply, but the postage to me (in japan) is a bit expensive for some things - the plane cost over $60 - rc-expert could have shipped it for $20, but i didn't find them till after my bird had shipped. spares also from ebayarmy (usa only) and rc-expert and cv trading.

does anybody know where i can get clevises for this plane from - they look pretty weak and i would like to have some spares.

have fun and fly high (not too high with this plane, though)

Does the folding prop help prevent damage during crashes? Or is it just to allow more convenient storage? Do you have to replace props often?

The folding prop CAN help prevent damage, although I did still brake 2 props in my first 10 flights. The folding props serve 2 functions first is to reduse drag when "GLIDING" and second is to keep it from hitting the ground when landing. There are a few other threads on the Accipiter if your interested in it.

I got a few small Dubro clevises from the local hobby shop. They were a loose fit, so I put a small dab of JB-Weld epoxy into the clevis hole, and screwed it up the threaded rod. After the epoxy cured, I was able to fine adjust the clevis, and it holds very snugly now.

I just bought my AB for $51 and it is in the mail. I have a couple questions if anyone could help me....

Has anyone cut and taped the rudder and elevetor for more flexibility?

Also... what is the point in wraping the battery in electrical tape?

These are just things I have read in the thread but were not fully explained.

If you could help me I would appreciate it. Thanx

Jim

Where'd you get one for $51 ?

I asked the same question about cutting and taping the rudder/elevator earlier and the only response was "it's not needed". I finished putting mine together and the servos seem to handle the load OK - not sure what the life of the servos will be though (and the higher servo load contributes to battery drain and shorter runs). I did put some offset bends in the push rods at the back end to line up them up better with the control horns.

I saw the battery taping note and haven't figured that out myself. Someone else mentioned taping the receiver to keep it together (in case of a crash ?) but I don't see a real need for that either.

I may yet tape up my wings for the added strength. But since this is supposed to be a glider and gentle landings should be the norm plus weight's the enemy, I'll wait till I get in a flight or two to see how tough landings are.

Still waiting for some decent weather before I give mine a toss.

I got it off ebay + 20 shipping.

I think I am going to tape the reciever, because throughout the different threads on here, I have seen a couple of people say that it stoped working after a crash. I am also going to tape the wind and maybe a little on the tail.

If the rudder and elevator are stiff, you would think by cuting and taping them that you would get a longer flight time due to less stress on the servos.

Tape the reciever. In a hard crash the reciever may come apart as it happened to me.

Trust me If You want to save yourself early wing replacement. at least put some tape in front edge of mainwing of the badius so it folds on top and bottom. Clear packing tape will not even add an once on the plane.
