flyby... is this your first plane? this was my first 3 ch plane and i had trouble at first, the i got a 2ch trainer and it made all the diffrence. My badius is in semi-retirement because i'm using one of its servos on my camera plane. I found the badius relaxing to fly once you get the hang of it. I'ts not meant for aerobatics you can loop and stuff but, the wings arent that strong as its meant for gliding at high altitudes which i finally realized after about 15 flights. What i do is launch at about 3/4 throttle let it climb and then i go full (it tends to nose up at full) and make adjustments with the trim. Get up real high and shut off the motor.
and just glide around. It glides forever, when you start descending give full power to climb back up and glide.

Hi all,
i have question bout AB...i found one at Ebay, model 2004 which should be better than the 2003 (?) but my Problem is, that I never used a model before. My Question: Is the AB easy to fly or would you say, that I better try another model to start? There are different models...example: (Jamara Piper?) J3 or (Jamara?) Cessna 120. They all are for beginners but i don´t know what the best vote is and which is the one with the best quality. Thank u for helping me and excuse my bad english, i am from Germany and found no german forum about AB (don´t want to buy cheap ****).

Indianax,

The biggest question is are you going to want to upgrade to a better plane somewhere down the road. If so you should just get a decent 4 channel controller and a slow-stick with flight pack. This will be more expensive right now but in the long run it will save you money. I have or had the AB its kinda in multiple parts right now, not that it was crap it held up really well I crashed it several times so hard I nearly shat my self. I but in my quest for more power I kind of messed it up good. Anyways most of the AB stuff will not move over to a different plane when you want to upgrade. And also the controller is set up like a RC car would be with one stick for up down, and one for left right. This will make it hard to go to a !QUOT!Normal!QUOT! Controller later down the road. Just my 2 cents.

@snowjackal...no, I don´t want to upgrade...it´s not a real hobby of mine, I just want to fly from time to time...without a club.
just for a little fun :-)
I know some folks and the are prof. flyers and want me in their club but I not need this. So I am searching a little flightmodel which is easy to fly, is looking good and is not so expensive....

bdius is good if you know how to balance this plane. This Plane is not Balance 'stock, youneed to put the battery flat at its lowest point up front closest to the motor. you may need to add more weight "coins" to keep it balance. since this adds weight, Dont fly in more than 5mph winds. you will loose control of plane and crash hard. these are knowntohave sensitive ESC causing it to breaK IN A HARD CRASH. Price wise it is a great plane to bring to your beach house and keep there for the summer or vacation home and not worry about the $. If you really want this plane to last, order the polhedral wings $7.00 and dont ever use the flat wings it came with. Order it with the purchase of the badius, it will save you shipping, since they charge $20.00 shipping but nothing extra with the parts. I never had good luck with the stock wings and eventually crashed hard on them. Polyherdal wings gives the plane lift and even stability gliding. Like I said create that low center gravity by placing that battery below the inside bracing where the rubber bands are and slid it under thos bar. break it if you have to and move it as close to the motor. I know from experiance since I bought 2 accipiter badius and experimented alot on it. I have my planes for 3 months now and love it. I am guessing you can modify these and use lighter "micro" flight pack and get better flight time.

Gabimore plane is tail heavy, just put as much weight front end and low inside the fuse. look on link in RC universe to see how to get good CG as I am not good explaing this part without a diagram. there is a link on the main page with diagram to check your CG

As for taping the receiver and esc just use little strip pieces of electric tape and tape from there without prying it out. Use your finger to get both edges taped together. thats what I did on my 2nd badius. 2ns badius still flies great. The first one I pryed it out and taped them since it came apart on me and did not know I should tape it. I will try to get a pic of my badius showing you how to place battery flat instead of standing to get a better "low" CG. putting the battery flat down close to engine helped build more cg since this plane CG is way off. adding more weight up fromt will help but in the same time make it heavy. I added <5 quarters coins> between motor and battery. wrap quarters up w electricc tape together so you wont short the motor as quarters might conduct electric.

There are couple of other threads on the boards here and there are some good pics of modifications. I even mad a video with my AB a while back. Here is a list of the other threads:

Hmmm... no. My feelin is that the CG came too far forward. I opened the fuse about 4 inches behind the wing and added 2 pennies, glued to the inside and closed it up again. It flies great now. The only problem so fa is that the wings have broken off at both sides of the place where they attach to the fuselage...... not too bad for $70 though :-) k, theres my 2 cents.

OK, I flew mine for the first time yesterday and had a great flight with 4 quarters in the nose to balance it out. Then next charge I had a rough crash. I was able to fix the wings which almost broke off. (I highly recomend that you tape the ENTIRE length of the wing BRFORE you screw them together!)

Now I have a problem though! When I throw it out It starts to go up and the motor cuts out every time!! Its not my batt. Its fully charged! Would this be the speed control or the reciever?

you might have to open up your receiver and solder your anntenna back, thats what happened to mines, luckily I had 2 planes so I looked at the other one to match the soldering, did you do a perimeter test to see if you can go long range before flying it after the crash?

Your ESC (speed control) will cut off power to just your motor when the battery voltage drops too low. But it still provides power to your receiver and servos so you can control the plane till you can land. You didn't mention if you can still control the plane but if so, it sounds like this is what may be happening. You should check your battery voltage under load and see if it drops (at around 4-5 volts the ESC will cut off the motor). During the crash, you may have damaged a battery or damaged an internal battery pack connection and even though you have charged the pack it still won't provide full voltage or the voltage will drop quickly when loaded.

Then it's almost certain you have a bad battery (cell) in your battery pack. If you don't have a way to check the voltage, you could simply substitute another battery pack.

By the way, the problem should show up while the motor is running even if you're still holding the plane - it shouldn't have to be airborn to show up.

Fixed the antena, Went to fly again. This plane does not handel good at all in wind. I crashed into a tree branch and It came down. Now the elevator servo does not work. Everything else works normaly. I can tell that the servo is geting power, because I try to move it manually and it resists me. All the connections have been checked. Its probabally my reciever needs to be replaced. Same thing happened to my slaw stick reciever when I hit a pole. Ch 2 stoped working.

lost my first one in the river. got another one from rc-experts (as i have loads of spares) - only $20 shipping to japan instead of $69 from radentech. had a few problems like it wouldn't fly until i discovered that probably my 2 1/2 year old son had flipped the servo reverse switch on the rudder. this morning i flew more than 6 circuits with it for the first time. so happy i've got the hang of this rc malaky at last - just as well as i bought 12 other planes as the us$ is so cheap at the moment. great firast aeroplane, except the wing holding points are feeble and the receiver is not protected as standard. also have an aerobird to get started with, but that's a bit different. p.s. the radentech plane was better then the one supplied by rc-experts - radio too.
