No, the power panel isn't necessary, but I can see how it would be convenient. Instead of buying batteries for a seperate glow plug ignitor, you just use the wired glow ignitor that is plugged into the power panel. I imagine you could always buy it later on though.

i have a hyper 7 and a savage SS

both rock, the hyper 7 is great on dirt roads, tracks and very short grass.

the savage rocks at parks, heavy terrain, construction sites and deeper mud and ruts.

both are fun.

depending where you plan to drive is what would decide which one.

i bought a rx pack form www.cheapbatterypacks.com its an 1100 mah 5 cell nimh hump or flat. the thing is awesome. i charge itw/ my novak mellineum charger and it has a ton of power. check it out. the best part is that it is only 9.25 for a hump pack and you can order a custom flat pack for not much more. go under custom packs for a flat pack or plane packs for a hump pack. www.cheapbatterypacks.com

Hi, I would just get 2 RX packs, then you can just keep one charged and swap it when one dies, or right before the mains. Then you can get away with using the cheap $5 4-hour wall charger. That is what I do. Good Peak chargers are expensive, around $100, and so far I have always thought of much better ways to spend the money, ecspecially when you can get 6v RX packs for $15. Also, I have heard somewhere that for $30 you can get a kit to convert the starter box to a 12v motor. Have not looked to find it, but I bet if you called Nitrohouse, they would know and probably have it.

I've just been running 12V to the stock motor on my PBS starter box. I spent around $30 total for the battery and the charger. The box is actually designed to hold the 12V battery. All you have to do is remove the twin 6 cell stick holders. Piece of cake.
