Probably a simple question thought posted it before but can't find it the computer was kind of funny that day!Looking for a kill switch for the engine. My Hi-Tec eclipse has a cut button that will shut off engine without changing the trottle trim so if set good you don't have to change it every time yuou kill the engine.According to manual the settings are saved so once I save the throttle setting then can I kill the engine with the trim dial without changing the actual throttle setting?Just got this thing and looks good but wish there were more simple explanations in the manual.Have to learn by trial and error about how things work haven't yet risked flying a plane with it!!I think they assume a higher level of competence than some of us have, can't even imagine how some of those trims and mixes are set and manual sure doesn't make it clear enough for me to understand.Maybe says something about my ability!!!Just got mine think it has the latest updates! Thanks Bob Moodie

Personally, I use the throttle trim to kill the engine.

I set my planes so that full up trim and full down stick is a solid idle, and full down trim kills the engine. So my trim is either full up or full down, which isn't hard to do, I find it more natual than a seperate kill switch myself, but that's personal preference.

The trim lever doesn't do anything once the stick is past about half throttle, so you don't need to worry about it messing with your high power settings.

I haven't tried putting an engine kill on a switch.

Thanks for the advice!Hasve always killed them with the trim lever but not set as you say so every time had to reset the idle speed, your way doesn't relly change the setting when you return it to that position trim is still the same as before. Also have the Hi-Tec eclipse which has a seperate switch that closes the need le valve to kill the engine, but what you are saying sounds so simple,Why didn't I think of it.Actually John Gill at Polk just tried to explain that to me too.SO much to learn and life is so short!!!

Most of my planes are set with high idle for starting at the high trim setting and low idle in the middle. Of course trim all the way down kills the engine. Other than some gassers that have a separate kill switch on the plane and the older turbines that needed a separate channel, I can't think of a reason to use a kill switch on the radio. I know some guys that use them and I know one guy that accidentally hit it in flight . Too bad he didn't have a restart switch .

PS, If you really need this feature you could probably mix throttle with another channel like gear, and use that switch. Just as easy for me to use the trim lever tho.

OH, if you really want to spend the time....

I set one of my planes so that full up trim was an "acrobatic" idle, that I was really sure wouldn't kill the enigne in flight, no matter what I was doing at the time (uplines, downlines, spins, snaps, etc). But it was too fast to land.

With a little messing around, I got a good "landing idle" set when trim is in the center. The radio beeps when the trim lever hits center, so I do my downwind and crosswind legs on my "acrobatic idle" at full up trim, then after turning final, I lower the trim until I hear the beep, which slows things down enough to land, but still has the engine running well enogh that I can punch it and go around if need be.

This does take a bit of messing around with the linkages, end points and other settings, but it can be done, and works well. But I have to admit that I've only bothered on one plane, most I just use the full-up to go and full down to stop version.
