If a plane will fly equally well on a cold day at a given power setting, as it will on a warm day with a higher power setting, then the airplane will go faster on the cold day when the power is brought up.

I'm still not clear.
Although it has been mentioned earlier by a088008 that it requires les s power to maintain a certain airspeed in denser air, I'm not sure if that takes into factor the fact that colder air will cause more resistance. So although it might take less power to hold the airplane up in cold weather, this may be also because the stalling speed is lower, so adding more power may not give more speed than if you were flying in warm weather.
I think (please straighten me out if I'm wrong) that it all comes down to airframe. I think we might prove that if we could get data where two airframes have different ideal flying temperatures (the temperature at where they're most efficient) Please feel free to correct me at any of this, I'm not an aerdynamisicst, i'm just using what I know.
I'm happy we have picked apart this topic so very thouroughly I think everyone will learn

I would say that it is not so much a question of speed as it is flying characteristics. The plane might not fly much faster with more power but it will have more lift and be more manouverable as a result. Also remember that with more lift the angle of attack will decrease and so drag will decrease. No matter how you look at it the plane flies better in colder air. The key words here are "flies better". So this is a pilots subjective feeling. What makes him feel this way - the plane has a lower stalling speed and is more manouverable at slower speeds, and requires less power.

Thrust= Ct*q * n^2 * d^4

Whouldn't this be Thrust= (Ct*q * n^2 * d^4)/(Pitch/Pitch)/ This should be so because you get no static thrust when pitch=0
