if you want to read the x terminators specs and review here they are. FIRST PLACE - R/C Car's Big Buggy Bash! The X- Terminator from XTM was the wildcard of this shootout, as none of us had any experience with XTM's products (it's a new brand for Global Hobbies). We were impressed with the car's appearance and its quality components, and the entire chassis looks very high-performance. Here are the technical highlights: The X- Terminator has a unique radio tray that angles the servos and fuel tank so that they are closer to the middle of the car (this improves the car's turning ability). XTM's 24.7 engine is the largest in this class, breaking the .21 barrier that has been the norm for 1/8-scale. This ABC engine also comes with a blue powder-coated aluminum tuned-pipe. The receiver and battery are encased in molded boxes that have snap-fit lids - there are no screws or clips to lose. The battery box will actually fit all types of packs - even five-cell flat packs. The dual-disc brakes are controlled by a single wire linkage. This simplified design actually worked very well. A steel spur gear is standard The car comes with aluminum posts for the radio tray, fuel tank and wing. The 3mm aluminum chassis is further strengthened by a pair of aluminum braces. The entire drivetrain spins on ball-bearings, There are also bearings for the steering bellcranks (very few high-end racers have this feature). The X-Terminator's body comes pre-screened, and the included decals have been precut to speed-up the detailing process. Silicone rubber boots are used to protect the front U-joints and the shocks from dirt penetration. A Hitec Lynx Sport AM radio is provided. A Hitec 605BB servo is used for the steering. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Length:................................................................ 19.7in/500mm Width:................................................................ 12in/304mm Wheelbase:......................................................... 13.1in/333mm Front track:.......................................................... 10.25in/260mm Rear track:........................................................... 10.25in/260mm Price:................................................................... $449.99 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TODD'S BREAK-IN NOTES The XTM started right up and ran as if its sleeve was of a softer metal, as if the engine had already been broken in. The highest qual ity racing engines have very high compression and they don't like to idle until they're fully broken in. But the 24.7 is superbly user-friend Iy, as it is very easy to start and break-in, and its factory settings were about as perfect as can be. FRANK'S TEST NOTES "You have to try this car!" Skinny was already yanking the Hot Bodies' controller from my hand and replacing it with the Hitec Lynx of the X- Terminator. I was jaded from the beginning, mostly because I liked the HB Lightning and Skinny had already proclaimed that the X-Terminator would reign supreme. "Ha!" I scoffed; this car is just a backyard basher, just look at that gaudy blue pipe! And that engine; it's a marketing gimmick made up to fool the naive. I couldn't have been more wrong. After months of testing the newest AM pistol radios, the XTM's Hitec Lynx felt awkward; the trigger "loop" took a little getting used to. I can't wait until the new Hitec Aggressor (tested in this issue) starts finding its way into RTRs. But despite this, it soon became clear that the X-Terminator had come to the RTR game with a serious ace up its sleeve: the 24.7 engine. Hands-down, this was the fastest car in the group (with the Lightning tailing closely). And we're not just talking about sheer straightaway speed, but the entire range of the engine is strong. The XTM pulls hard from way down low, transitions smoothly to mid-range, and screams at full throttle. Did I call the blue pipe gaudy! I take it back; this thing sounds like a Novarossi. All of the other cars felt a little numb on turn-in. Grab their brakes and the equal bias forced the front wheels wide. The X- Terminator's brakes were perfectly set. I could slide the car into tight turns, grab a little brake and the rear tires would slide around until the nose of the car was pointed towards the next corner. All of the elements seemed to be in harmony. The damping was suitably stiff, the stock tires provided good bite (but not quite as good as the Lightning), and the engine provided enough grunt to clear every obstacle - even the intimidating quads, which measured a full 15 feet from beginning to end. HIGHS: Fantastic engine with tons of useable power. The X- Terminator is loaded with racing features. It has an equipment list that tops all other cars in this category. Out-of-the-box. this car handles like a well-tuned racing buggy. LOWS: The 24.7 engine needs a larger cylinder head; the one provided looks as if it came from a small-block .12. THE VERDICT We had no experience with any XTM products. so we had no idea what to expect from the X- Terminator. XTM has done its homework well, and has created a high-performance RTR buggy that will satisfy everyone from backyard bashers to big-air jumpers to club racers. The X- Terminator is the cream of the crop.~
