diputs-

k-carboy and demoncat are spot-on with their posts. Figure out what features you like the best (within your budget, of course) and focus on finding a buggy that will satisfy those wants. Even better if your LHS has good parts support. Your asking for opinions and you're never going to get everyone to agree on 'the best buggy'.

Continue searching the forum for those buggies you're interested in - check out the complaints and the kudos for each one.

With that said, I have owned an X-Terminator myself and found it to be a very reliable buggy - into101101 had some very good points in his post, although he missed a few important ones. The rear wing brace (top of diff case) is exceptionally weak - if you put it on the lid very hard you'll snap the $6 part (well known issue for XTM that they're working on). The clutch bell bearings are cheap flanged jobs that won't survive too much abuse - upgrade to a different bell and bearing set. The engine can be a bit moody, as stated, until it's fully broken-in. The only thing they 'fixed' with the engine was its tendency to overheat because of the whimpy little cooling head - they upgraded to a much larger head suited to the job. The throttle/brake servo horn needs trimmed as it interferes with normal brake operation otherwise (you'll see on the linkage). The fuel filter needs moved to a better location - no biggy. And the receiver box is difficult to get in and out of because interference near the hinge. Despite all that I really liked the buggy.

These are nit picky things that you'll experience with any buggy (not the exact same problems of course). They all have issues. However you asked a tough (very subjective) question and you're going to have to be the one to answer it.

Good luck.

Now keep in mind- ALL buggies are going to have their issues- weak points, non optimized parts, etc. You just happened to get opinions from Xterm owners only.

It is a good buggy. I think most people would have at least nitpicky gripes on any of these buggies. Don't let
our input from the xterminator only sway you. Ask other folks the nitty gritty of their buggies, and you will probably
get somewhat similar results (if they are being totally honest)

I just bought my new x-terminator deluxe the day before christmas. I havent had a chance to run it yet but i love the way it looks and i have been doing some checkup work by reading the manual and so far it looks great! I do have one last question though, when i turn on my car and remote the servo operating the stearing makes a buzzing noise like it is trying to move the wheels but cant. It turns like it should but when just sitting there it makes the noise, is this a problem?

thanks u guys for helping me find the right buggy!

I'm new to the RC car scene, not-so-new but still new to RC Airplane scene. (I'm 12)

I think a starter box starts the engine if you don't have a Pull-Start. (Kinda weird, don't you think? Why can't you start the engine by tying a string to the buggy and running so that the buggy's wheels spin fast enough to start the engine and draw fuel? Kinda like if you had a chicken stick for an airplane?!?)

Eekk, it's kinda expensive.

Glow buggies under $99, come to me!!!!

Wish I had $400 pieces of dough lying around.

gas r/c cars have centrifugal clutches meaning the car will freewheel at idle or when the engine is stopped. the only way for the engine to be in contact with the drivetrain is for the engine to produce enough rpm's for the clutch shoes to swing out and make contact with the clutch bell which in turn drives the spur gear and then the drivetrain respectivly whether it be through a transmission or driveshaft(s). if your theory were possible then the engine would die when the car was stopped.
if you dont understand this just try to start a chainsaw by turning the chain or a weed trimmer by turning the cutting head: same principle.

did you check your local hobby shop to see what parts they have in stock on a regular basis? i have a GS Storm Pro and love it, but my lhs has to order stuff if i need it. the guys with teh ofna buggies can go right in and get what they need. the ofna guys can compare hop-ups, set-ups,etc..............i have the only storm in my crew.

sicne its your first buggy it wont matter if you have a kanaii or a axis....your not gonna be the best driver around anyway. just get a buggy in your budget and get out on the track already.

I still cant go very fast because i still need to break it in, but its still fun. I do have a question though. When its idoling and i have it on a stand or im holding it the wheels start to spin really fast, ive tryed to fiddle with the idol throttle and i have tryed adjusting the linkages but cant figure out why it dose this? Sometimes it even moves slowly acrossed the ground. can anyone help me?

For a rough guess, I would say the car is moving, because the engine RPM's are too high, and thus engaging the clutch OR the throttle servo isn't centered properly.

It is getting too much air/fuel at idle... The idle screw probably needs to be set in a bit. However, I wouldn't even worry about it during break in... Just getting through break in can be a pain sometimes. Then, when it is broken in, you can really get it right.

Keep us updated!

I am in the middle of designing a good aluminum rear shock tower support, so maybe I can have a spare ready when you brake yours (and you will)...

thanx for the help guys!

Yesterday i was breaking it in and I went to turn around and hit the gas a little to hard and ended up hitting a snow bank and going flying through the air! I was planning on jumping it later but not that quikly! The x-term accelerates like a beast!

How much will u sell that shock tower for?

(to everyone else is there anything that breaks very regularly that i should buy ahead of time? i already bought some extra glow plugs)

The shock tower is a 2 piece design bracing the front/rear and sandwiching the tower in the middle. It does require shaving the WEAK plastic extruded mounts on the top of the diff cover, but this is real easy with a file.

I will let it go for cost of material +$15.00 for my time... So maybe $20 when I have it ready to go?
