Stig Andersen -> Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/24/2003 9:57 AM)

Hi guys.

I have recently purchased a laser cut kit of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter from Oakdale Aircraft in the USA. I am starting this thread to show how the kit is put together, and to maybe help other people who are building this plane. I must say up front, that the kit is not the one they produce for the Toki .21 , but the one that is "sized-up" for at 12 pound turbine. I will be fitting my SimJet 1200 in it. Here are some pictures fro the first night in my shop. I have not glued anything yet,--just taken som pics of the kit parts, and done a rough "build-up" of the parts, to se how they come togehter. So far I am very pleased with the quality of the parts.

Hey Stig,

Looks like an interesting kit! Keep the pics coming, Very interested in watching your progress on this unique bird.
Still flying the Euro?

BRG,
Todd

How big is this thing? How much $$ Nothing about it on their web site.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/24/2003 10:28 PM)

Hey Todd.

Yes, I still have my Eurosport. I have about 100 flights on it so far, and now it is winter time in Denmark, so it's absolutely NO FUN being out on the field flying my ES, so I have started this project and I have a Avonds F-16 Deluxe Kit waiting also.

TP777fo: I can not tell you what the real price is, but I would guess about 300 US dollars. It is about 66 inches long. You could send a mail dirctly to Russ Ahlberg at Oakdales. He usually replies very quickly. E-mail rahlberg@oakdaleaircraft.com

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/27/2003 9:27 AM)

The front part of the fuselage is now ready for planking. It went together well.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/27/2003 9:35 AM)

Construction of the rear part of the fuse is now in progress. I want to modify the formers, to make plug-in wings for easier transportation. The formers in the wing/engine bay/uc area are all double formers.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/27/2003 9:39 AM)

The wooden part for the main u/c. I plan on using SpringAirs

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/28/2003 8:34 AM)

Constuction of the rear fuse has begun. I have done some modifications to the formers.

Jetset -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/28/2003 1:42 PM)

Looking good Stig!
Myles

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (11/28/2003 1:45 PM)

Hello Myles.

Thanks a lot. Have you received your kit, or did you not order it yet.

aldousyuen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/1/2003 11:49 AM)

Thanks for sharing your construction experience. I'm installing a 12lb turbine in one of the kits and will test taxiing it this weekend. Let me know if you need any assistance.

Cheers. Aldous.

aldousyuen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/1/2003 12:03 PM)

MW54 based turbine + tailpipe with two 600 ml fuel tanks

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/1/2003 12:05 PM)

Hello Aldous.

That sounds great. Looking forward to seeing som newer pics of you plane. Good luck.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/2/2003 9:37 AM)

Rear fuse is almost finished.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/2/2003 9:38 AM)

Now I have to connect the front to rear fuse. This i just a rough build-up.

Rider-60 -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/2/2003 11:34 AM)

Looks very nice Stig!,

it looks like you can put a vertical fan for STOL capabilities??

Where can we get the specs of this kit? and where did you buy it?

Cheers
Florent

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/2/2003 11:49 AM)

Hello Florent.

I got the kit from Oakdale Aircraft http://www.oakdaleaircraft.com in the USA. The specs will differ if you chosse to build a A, B or C version of the JSF. I beleive mine C-version will be about 70 inches long.

Jetset -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/2/2003 11:53 AM)

How are you Stig!:)
Unfortunately I had to put my ordering of anything on hold till at least after the New Year but I really would like to get one of those planes!
The laser cutting looks real good!
Keep up the good work man! :D
Myles

Len -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/3/2003 8:00 AM)

Hi Guys,
I absolutely could not stand just looking at these pictures, so I placed the order an F-35 with Russ today! The Raptor will wait another year I suppose! I hope to have it before the Christmas break...drool slobber drool...
Len

aldousyuen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/3/2003 11:29 AM)

Hi Stig,

Newer picts have all the internal details covered up, thus make things 'nothing special' from a scratch construction point of view. Anyhow, fuse after planking will look like this. Underside is halfly planked which allow mounting of fin and taileron after taxi testing.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/4/2003 10:09 AM)

The fuse is now almost finished for skinning. Wingroot and fin base are mounted. The front and rear parts of the fuse have been glued together.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/4/2003 10:11 AM)

Now it's time to start working on the wings. I have a 3-view drawing of the plane that I am using.

aldousyuen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/5/2003 9:13 AM)

Hi Stig,

Does the kit come with fin and taileron laser cut parts, or just the root bases?

Cheers. Aldous.

Stig Andersen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/5/2003 9:35 AM)

Hello Aldous.

As far as I can see, there is only a root base.

Right now I am working on the internal ducting. Soon I will start working on the flying surfaces. (Sorry, no pics today)

aldousyuen -> RE: Oakdale Aircraft F-35 construction (12/5/2003 12:12 PM)

Hi Stig,

I have the fin and taileron drawings ready and will pass it to Russ. Here is a pict of them. Note that there is a "step" on both the fin and taileron. I included it to retain the scale look. The step on the fin is big enough to house a mini servo for rudder control.

Hope this helps.
