I took my SPA3D "CRACK HOR out in the wind yesterday. We had 15 constant, gusts to 25. I love getting this thing about 2 foot off the deck, nose a few degress above H and watching it sit there...pull the nose up a touch more and back it up down the runway. Too much fun indeed! I can't wait to have a calm day to see how much fun it is then! Jon

It has been said that CRACK is the most addictive drug out there...add oversized ailerons and a good running .47 and I'm all over it!!! Now if I can just remember to put a new screw in my stripped aileron servo, I'll have a lot of fun! Jon

Jon: I know what you mean about the spa3dt being a blast even in the wind. I took 3 of my planes ( 2 balsa trainers and the spa3dt) out saturday afternoon for a little fun...only flew one trainer a few times and spent the rest of the day flying the spad. Called a few of the guys in our group sunday morning to see if they wanted to go flying for a while in the afternoon and they decided "why not". We went to the airstip sunday even though the wind was blowing kind of heavy to be flying (steady 15-17 and gusting to 25+). Only took the spa3dt and my new spad (didn't even maiden it yesterday...maybe I will on friday) and left all the balsa at home. Had to just point the spad into the wind hit the throttle and watch it jump into the air for some amazing hovering - backward flight and harrier landings. Jon, It's amazing how well SPADs fly in the wind, isn't it? I had my Deb (with Saito .72) and DPS out last week when the wind was honkin' and had a blast! That's about the only time you can hover/harrier a Deb! It was so windy, a local chicken farmer said he saw one of his hens lay the same egg THREE TIMES!!![X(][8\|][:D] Madd_Maxx, Beautiful SPA3D! DL: That is kind of a one off spad I built. The first one was a spa3dt and I cut 2 sets of wings and tailfeathers since I thought that I would build one and a freind was going to build the other....that didn't happen. I took the spare parts and tried to build a qhor/pqhor/spa3dt combo....I used the 32" u channel fuse (pqhor/qhor) and a 36" wingspan of the (qhor/spa3dt) but all control surfaces are cut out like a pqhor for a better look. The 6oz fuel tank is mounted on top of the u channel rail (right behind the motor with little clearance) with a 3/4" spacer block and a scrap piece of 2 1/2" sqaure downspout pipe as a saddle. The bolts holding the motor mount (originally built for the second spa3dt) to the u channel fuse also run down through the fuel tank saddle. Then all I had to figure out was how to hold the tank in and still have clearance for the throttle servo.....along came 2 long tip zies that wrap around the front and back of the saddle with a small one in the middle of the 2 holding them from slipping off the end of the tank. This took a little extra time to figure out but I think I turned ok pretty good even for a newbie spad builder like myself.
